The origins of the Domaine de Gléon estate can be traced back to ancient times. Evidence of this lies in the many Gallo-Roman and Visigoth remains (Gaufresenque pottery, pre-Romanesque chapel). For ten centuries the estate belonged to the Treille-Gléon-Durban-Narbonne family.
Château Gléon guarded access to the Hautes-Corbières. It was besieged by the Spanish in 1503. The last Marquis of Gléon sold the estate to the ancestors of the current owners in 1861.
Since then, the Château Gléon has been run by the Bonnes family, and latterly by the Montanié family, handed down from father to son.
There have thus been six generations safeguarding the prosperity and quality of the castle's lands. The first "bottling" dates back from the end of the 19th century.
The Estate lies at the gateway to the Hautes-Corbières, in the canton of Durban, attached to the village of Villesèque-des-Corbières, at the entrance to what is known as Paradise Valley. It covers 303 ha/750 acres, including 50 ha/150 acres of vineyards...

Located in the hills, vines occupy a multitude of small plots, the know-how of the wine grower associated with these natural conditions allows us to produce high quality wines.
The health status of the harvest is naturally good. However, vintners Domaine de La Peyrouse go further by practicing agriculture biologique, Certificated from harvest 2013.

If you love excellent food and wine, then there can be no
finer restaurant in the South of France as Auberge du Vieux Puits. This 3 star
Michelin restaurant is run by the celebrated French chef, Gilles Goujon. I can
not recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food, the service, the wine,
the cheese . . . all were excellent. Nobody has given Gilles Goujon anything for
free. On the contrary. In a bucolic atmosphere far from the mundane noise, in an
austere building –sold by the tiny Town Hall– he has been progressively
restoring for a decade, he has been able to captivate plenty of customers and
reach the top of the French guides: 5 hats in Gault Millau and 3 stars in
Michelin. We can say we are before a self-made man who had to fight and sweat
blood to reach fame; a fame very few chefs deserve so clearly...

Les Terrasses de la Berre |

The owners of Les Terrasses de la Berre gives you a warm welcome. This charming restaurant is a small cosy place with a fireplace, badly needed, because it was lashing rain outside. They have a lovely menu. Salads for starters, a selection of lovely local cheeses and its majesty, the local specialty Cassoulet, what a culinary experience. Nice place, in a nice village, run by lovely people and fantastic food.... you happen to pass by, this is a must try place... The restaurant has multiple small terraces overlooking the Berre. Note that the unusable terraces are the days of high winds. Summer must be reserved for certain of being placed...

Randonnée La Serre
de Roquefort-des-Corbières |
 |
|
This journey from Roquefort des Corbières, long ago was close to our heart and it is time to do it before the summer heat has settled. The absence or rather the rarity of the shade and the water are put here. La Tramontane is also to be taken into account, although we do not find it extremely unpleasant. Under these conditions, this loop-shaped route will allow you to enjoy the scenery in complete tranquility from the heights. The clad yellow markings are present and well visible and precise. The start of the walk takes place between Cellier de Roquefort and the Café du Marché, at the mural. Go to the rue des Trois-Moulins and follow the Chemin Camin-del-Bosc about 300 meters. This route is also used for Le Sentier Cathare. Then take the Chemin de la Triolle to the right, leading to the exit of the village. The road leads along vineyards and passes into a narrow path surrounded by scrubland (garrigues) and fragrant pine trees, and then follow a footpath for a few hundred meters before turning left onto the Plateau Vabina. The progress will work well, the landscapes are amazing and soon one after another appears by following the path. Pastoral history shows itself well, which has to be placed in the context of time and seems to be well-helped by the idyllic landscape...

Le Jardin Botanique de Foncaude |

A botanical garden created in 1991, set in an outstanding,
wild "garrigue" landscape - the typical scrubland of the south. The garden
covers 7.5 hectares and is made up of three parts. The arboretum has more than
300 species of trees, shrubs, palms and conifers - 2,500 trees have been planted
here. The cactus rock gardens have around 8,000 plants (including 1,300
different species). The Mediterranean zone has about 340 species. It is one of
the largest collections of ground-planted cacti and succulents in France and
also boasts a collection of agaves...
