Sarrat de Goundy - Armissan

The terroir of La Clape stands out above Narbonne and the Mediterranean Sea, in the heart of the Languedoc in the south of France. Our vines flourish on this former island soils with harsh climate, bathed by the sea winds and the sun. Sarrat de Goundy is born from the common desire of a family close to this arid and rocky landscape, the eyes on the Big Blue Sea. Olivier Calix, winemaker, shares this strong link to the terroir that inspires him authentic and personal wines.
Sarrat de Goundy - Armissan
The vine is existing in La Clape since antiquity. We are growing it for three generations. The grandfather Henri Calix, is taking care of it like his vegetable garden. Then, Claude and his wife Rosy, plant it between stones and scrubland, on the virgin land of the place called Sarrat de Goundy. At their time, turning it into wine was going through the cooperative cellar of the village. Creating our own wine has become obvious during Olivier’s times. Sarrat de Goundy is our family dream, made from our hands, our desires and our beliefs for this unique Mediterranean’s terroir.

The Winery and the Wine Cellar
Between vats, jars and barrels, our wines are born and raised here, you cannot be closer. During the harvest, the excitement in the cellar tells the beginning of their story, the complex and crucial moment of winemaking, the constant monitoring of the evolution of fermentation, the “pigeage”, the choices... Then comes quietness, a bit, until the next blending or bottling. Just behind, in the wine storage cellar, our best wines are aging in French oak barrels. We also added a few old vintages aside, we will have the opportunity to go and get one together.

The winemaker Table d'Hotes
Shall we sit together for a drink? We keep a nice corner at the bar for you, around the large wooden table or by the terrace with olive trees. Come and taste our wines, stay with us around tapas or for dinner. We cook only good, fresh, local and seasonal products. Our friends make cheese, ham, honey, for olive oil, it is ours and the vegetable garden is just in front. In the grocery store, we have selected for you lots of good things to take with you. We'll talk about wine, life, Mediterranean. From June to September, our table is yours, book it!

Our Terroir:
La Clape The sun shines over the sea, the winds take the spray to the top of the mountain, you are on an island. Overtaken by the continent, La Clape remained this red clay and gray limestone outcrop scrutinizing the Mediterranean to the Pyrenees. Hot, dry, flushed by the elements, between rocks, scrubland and pine of Aleppo, our terroir is hard. Our vines have made their way through intact soils and their roots are deeply anchored in order to find the strength to withstand the onslaught of winds and sun. La Clape is a tiny territory which is producing since antiquity sought-after wines. Its singular character led it to the rank of AOP La Clape since 2015.

La Clape

La Clape

The La Clape AOC is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

Northwest oaks and downy oaks mingle with pine nuts and pine vegetation still testify today that covered 3000 BC. We will be on the Massif de la Clape. It borrows from the slopes and trails. They are mounted but they are not steep if not we will walk in places on rocky trails. The sticks also are recommended. Small loop around the Pech Redon but it is only a variant which allows to discover the joys of "bartassage" for those who do not know. Then the tour continues quietly with a beautiful view if the sun is to the game. It leads us to the Vigie-round fire monitoring. After borrowing a path of vineyards and made a little road, the meal period may be close to the viewpoint which offers a beautiful view of Narbonne and its Cathedral .. A little further away, downhill near pines before finding the paths that will allow us to see the Virgin of Cruques and end up on the shelf in the scrubland of Clape where one could see, on February 27, a wild iris multitude of all colors. This is a very beautiful hike by the in the specified direction because we have a beautiful view through the circuit and it also can not cross private property Happy trails...
