On the road to Les Corbières, a few kilometres from the small Château de Durban, you will find Le P'tit Gourmand. A restaurant that sweetly smells the local cuisine and the recipes of our grandparents: veal blanquette, beef sirloin, cannelloni with porcini mushrooms, grilled or sauced snails, tripe... Every day, Karine Gili, in the kitchen, prepares a unique dish for a dish + dessert formula. It's simple, it's made with good products and it works!
For dinner, the menu is more varied, treat yourself to specialties such as fresh fish à la plancha, beef rib with fresh chanterelles, veal liver garnished with parsley and finally, let yourself be tempted by the homemade desserts made by Benoît like the revisited tiramisu: spéculoos, mango-coconut, lemon-raspberry, or perhaps this ancestral Catalan specialty mel i mato made of fresh cheese, nuts, caramelized sesame seeds and Corbières honey, a true delight! Benoît, at the bar, will make you discover his cocktails at low prices: mojito, rhum arrangé.... Every other Saturday, there is a special evening with a unique menu, so don't hesitate to check out the Facebook page. A very nice and well kept address as we like them to be...

Domaine Grand Guilhem |
|
|
 |
|
|
The Domaine Grand Guilhem is an organic wine producing property of 12 hectares with a large 19th century house and outbuildings. It lies just above the minute wine producing village of Cascastel which is situated in the Fitou area of Southern France. This is in the region known popularly as Cathar country. It is 25 kilometres from the Mediterranean and the beaches, 30 kilometres south of Narbonne, 40 kilometres north of Perpignan and 40 kilometres south east of Carcassonne. The nearest town with facilities is Durban des Corbières, 6 kilometres from Cascastel, on the D611.
This unusually named region has always been isolated. It is still in the Midi, but without the large number of holidaymakers who seek the sun and the sea in other areas of the South.
Here you will find a land of sun and ever-changing light, old fortress castles with a legendary past, perched on mountain tops, and scattered picturesque villages where older people sit and gossip in the shade of the plane trees their voices barely heard above the murmur of the fountain. Imagine valleys planted with vines, slopes covered by the ‘Garrigue’*, the crests of the hills lashed by the ‘Cers’**, where the encircling horizon is lost from sight. Where the beaches and ‘Etangs’*** are protected from urban development and to which the only visitors are the rose pink flamingoes. At the moment this area remains unspoilt although, as in the case of other parts of the south, it could be taken over and flooded by those who wish to experience a newly fashionable area...

Château Wiala |

Since I was very young I have lived my life at the rhythm of the vines, it was always obvious to me that I should be a wine-grower. As a child I accompanied my parents in the vineyard and driving the crawler tractor was one of my favourite games.
I decided to enter into working life as soon as was possible. My father passed his knowledge and experience down to me and instilled in me the love of a good job done. He worked as part of a cooperation, and I took over from him. A cooperation enables the use of effective vinification tools and provides access to qualified personnel. However, there was still a final step to take: develop my own products. Wiebke and Alain Voroons created Le Château Wiala. I was impressed by their commitment and diligence in developing their wine. Taking over from them will be a challenge. Alongside my family and that of my partner, Philippe, we are fully committed to a quality approach.
We have all the ingredients to make exceptional products: varied and well preserved quality terroirs, adapted grape varieties and a well-equipped vinification cellar.
The small size of the domaine enables us to tend to every step from the vine to the bottle; a craftsmanship which guarantees products of excellent quality.
I wish for my wines to reflect and express my passion for my work and for the local area in which I grew up....

Randonnée La Serre
de Roquefort-des-Corbières |
 |
|
This journey from Roquefort des Corbières, long ago was close to our heart and it is time to do it before the summer heat has settled. The absence or rather the rarity of the shade and the water are put here. La Tramontane is also to be taken into account, although we do not find it extremely unpleasant. Under these conditions, this loop-shaped route will allow you to enjoy the scenery in complete tranquility from the heights. The clad yellow markings are present and well visible and precise. The start of the walk takes place between Cellier de Roquefort and the Café du Marché, at the mural. Go to the rue des Trois-Moulins and follow the Chemin Camin-del-Bosc about 300 meters. This route is also used for Le Sentier Cathare. Then take the Chemin de la Triolle to the right, leading to the exit of the village. The road leads along vineyards and passes into a narrow path surrounded by scrubland (garrigues) and fragrant pine trees, and then follow a footpath for a few hundred meters before turning left onto the Plateau Vabina. The progress will work well, the landscapes are amazing and soon one after another appears by following the path. Pastoral history shows itself well, which has to be placed in the context of time and seems to be well-helped by the idyllic landscape...

Le Jardin Botanique de Foncaude |

|
A botanical garden created in 1991, set in an outstanding,
wild "garrigue" landscape - the typical scrubland of the south. The garden
covers 7.5 hectares and is made up of three parts. The arboretum has more than
300 species of trees, shrubs, palms and conifers - 2,500 trees have been planted
here. The cactus rock gardens have around 8,000 plants (including 1,300
different species). The Mediterranean zone has about 340 species. It is one of
the largest collections of ground-planted cacti and succulents in France and
also boasts a collection of agaves...

La Chapelle Notre Dame des Oubiels |
 |
|
Notre Dame des Oubiels is first a majestic ruin, historical monument of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, situated between vineyards and olive trees. It is accessed through the village to walk out, to spend pleasant moments there amid the 'Garrigue' with the view of Portel-des-Corbières. With fine weather, many Portel hikers arrives, walkers and tourists. Their first visit is the old ruined church, La Chapelle Notre Dame des Oubiels. And the questions are always the same: when was this church built? What is the origin of its name? Why they have built so far from the village? By whom has it been destroyed? We will try to respond succinctly. The ruins of this old church, Notre Dame des Oubiels (lambs), are located a kilometer west of the village, built near the défilé de la Reïnadouïre (la Reine des eaux), crossed by the river Berre...
