  Specialities

"This hotel has been cleverly designed to provide everything which the overnight traveller or long-stay holidaymaker could wish for - made to measure. Extensions with red-tiled roofs have been added to the original old mill to form an integrated complex of rooms and suites, four sides of which enclose a lush, secluded cloister. Rooms are bright, modern and well decorated, with tiled floors and patterned fabrics.

The choice of accomodation is particularly flexible for families with children. Although parts of the hotel are old, there's no museum feeling, but rather a highly efficient and comfortable hostelry. There's ample room for everyone in the spacious grounds. The swimming pool is equally serious and professional, and is flanked by impressive strands of oleander. The excellent cooking and the wine cellar reflect the personal passion of the owner, M. Gonzalvez, the son of a vigneron.

Quite a number of English wine merchants make this hotel their base to sample the wines of the Corbieres. A warm welcome is assured from the Gonzavelzs and their labrador, Jeff."

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Minervois

A.O.C. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Le Musée du Château de Ventenac - Ventenac-en-Minervois

A place, a history, a passion ... Cross the aisle vault, lined tanks of old Verrees, enter the heart of our cave and visit the museum. Follow the marked route and discover the old tools, cooperage, carriages and wagons old. The Castle of Ventenac was erected in the eighteenth century on the foundations of an ancient castle. The name of Ventenac is its etymology in Roman times: Villa Ventenachus. Castrum Venthenacum was taken in the twelfth century by Simon de Montfort at the time of the Cathars. This is the nineteenth century that Ms. Seguy Saint Siran built the castle in its present form, giving it its prestigious appearance reminiscent of a religious building. At his death, the vineyard, the cellar and the castle became the property of Pauline Meyer. It is in 1938 that deal with the threat of war, the Meyer family left France....

La Miellerie des Clauses - Montséret

The Honey, it is little as the wine: the more we know about things on him, the more we understand that he is alive, and the more we estimate him... At the honey farm, you can explore the world of bees and honey and the nature and heritage of the Corbières area. The bee-keepers themselves will explain all the stages of manufacture and get you to join in. To end the visit, there is a tasting of the honey farm's products which can be bought on site (honey, gingerbread, mead, pollen, honey caramels, candles...).

Golf Pitch and

Golf Pitch and Putt Ste Rose - Narbonne

18-Holes.

18 Holes, Par 54, 1.200 metres, 1312 yards. Built in 1988 by Jean Pierre Basurco International standard. Narbonne is another of the Languedoc's best loved cities, and is set on the Mediterranean Coast, offering a chance to explore and enjoy a different aspect of the Aude. The club here is called Le Pitch 'n' Putt Sainte Rose, and although there is not a full golf course there is a very good eighteen-hole pitch and putt course, a driving range, pro shop and a clubhouse. It is really of more interest to holidaymakers and beginners than to serious golfers, but professional lessons are available, and competitions are held regularly...
