Corbières

A.O.P. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Campsite La Pinède

Campsite La Pinède - Lézignan-Corbières

Situated in Languedoc-Rousillon, only 500 meters from the centre of Lézignan Corbières, Aude, this 3½ hectares family Campsite site, at the edge of a fragrant pine forest, invites you to enjoy a well deserved rest in the shade of pine and almond trees. Here you will discover the terroir or wine producing vineyards of the Corbières and the Minervois appellation. You can relax on the terrace of the camp snack bar and enjoy a traditional dish cooked to a traditional Pays Cathare recipe. The campsite is ideally located, halfway between Carcassonne and Narbonne Plage, in the Department of Aude. Tranquil and unspoiled, under the dependable sun of southern France, we offer mobile-homes to rent and have dedicated bays to receive caravans, Campsite-vans and tents. Within a short drive of the campsite, you can visit the historic sites of the Cathare region with its castles and abbeys. The Canal du Midi traverses the area on its final leg to the nearby Mediterranean Sea...

Lagrasse

Lagrasse

Officially designated ‘One Of The Most Beautiful Villages In France’, Lagrasse nestles at the confluence of two valleys in the stunning Corbières wine region of the South of France. The village is linked to the 8th century Benedictine abbey to which it owed its original prosperity by two graceful bridges spanning the river. Between Carcassonne and Narbonne, Lagrasse is set in the Orbieu valley, in the Corbieres massif. The Orbieu river separates the abbey, rising over the left bank, from the village which spreads along the right bank and is listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France. The foundation charter of the Benedictine Abbey of Sainte Marie de l'Orbieu dates from the end of the 8th century, even if another building probably existed on the site before the Carolingian period...

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés...

Minerve

Minerve

On the border between the Aube and the Herault, in the middle of the Minervois vineyard, this medieval village is perched on a rocky outcrop that overlooks the Cesse and the Brian rivers. Its elevated location made it, during the Cathar wars, a refuge for heretics after the sack of Beziers in the beginning of the 13th century. The town has preserved its old stone buildings from that time. The quickest way to get to this Cathar village is the D15 highway. You will not be disappointed, as Minerve has a lot to offer. In fact, it is listed as one of the “most beautiful villages in France”. Park your car outside the village, and take a tour on foot to see these wonders up close. Right away, you will see the remains of a medieval castle from the 13th century. Not far from these remnants, at the top of the village, you will see the church of Saint-Etienne that dates from the 11th century. This religious building in the Roman style houses an altar that was likely built in the year 456. Finally, admire the natural bridges dug out by the canyons of the Cesse and the Brain, or the old ramparts that have been completely restored...
