Randonnée Le Roc de Roland - Moux

A few kilometers southwest of Moux, stands the Roc Gray set of limestone ridges which rises to 418 meters.

This rocky outcrop now restores historical heritage through the ruins and legends. In fact, the other name  of 'Le Roc Gris' is 'Le Roc de Roland'....
Mairie de Moux
Legend has it that Roland used this rock to escape from his enemies, to be run away with his horse Alaric towards the Montagne Noir (on the other side of the Aude valley).

The momentum of the horse was so powerful that an imprint of his hoof is inlaid in stone forever.

Moux and its surroundings, including of their proximity to Alaric, are rich in hiking...
  Départ de Moux, Place de l'église;

> Take the street until Ferdinand Theron till Henry Battle Avenue then southwards to leave the village by the GR. Pass the tomb of Henry Bataille, poet and dramatist of the nineteenth century, from Moux. Follow this road to the Highway.

> Go under the bridge, straight on for about 200 m, then follow the GR 77 on the right. Note the buildings called "le four à chaux' where alvéoline limestone was treated which was extracted from the nearby quarries.

> Following the GR 77 to the forest track you will come across the ruines of the priory of St-Pierre-d'Alaric and the farm of Vidal. At the track, you can access the GR 77 at Signal, the highlight of Alaric.

> To continue the track of Le Roc Gris, follow the path about 800 m. In the meantime, you can observe the structure of the limestone Roc Gris. Turn right at the signpost marked by cairns before descending to the valley. Note the difference on both sides of vegetation: the forest that we just left behind us and the shrub area exposed to the wind on the slope. Downstairs arrived, take the path through the ancient fields - interrupted by a few buildings - to return to the "le four à chaux" at the quarry.

> At the road, turn left to Moux

Château la Baronne
Château la Baronne - Moux
A.O.P. CorbièresThe Alaric Mountain is a region where all the geological eras are represented. It's an enormous mass of limestone, a vast reservoir for groundwaters which emerge at Fontcouverte at a temperature from 18 to 22°C. The La Baronne vineyard is planted between 100 and 200 meters altitude on tertiary and quaternary limestone, clay or sandstone formations which are of marine, river or lacustral origin hence the large variety of "terroirs". Our 90 ha vineyard is surrounded by forests of holm oak, cypress and pine trees, and also by limestone "garrigue" or scrubland with a rich flora (shrub oak, rosemary, boxwood, juniper, broom, thyme, rockrose, or strawberry trees... plus two botanical curiosities: allium molly and genista villarsii.). At La Baronne, the traditional grape varieties of the Languedoc have always been the order of the day... the old Carignans (up to 115 years old!), Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvedre for the reds (90% of the vineyards), or Grenache blanc, Roussane, Vermentino and Bourboulenc for the whites. But the Lignères Family has a special affection for Carignan, constantly striving to heighten the expression, finesse and elegance of this emblematic variety of the region...

Château Fontenelles
Château Fontenelles - Douzens
A.O.P. CorbièresIn the family for five generations, the Domaine de Fontenelles now stretches over 40 hectares of Syrah, black Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre on the hinterland of Alaric, in the Corbières AOP and the Aude Côteaux Miramont PGI zone. Fontenelles is a family history but also the passion of a winemaking couple resolutely turned towards the future. Guided by their love of the vine and wine, Thierry and his wife Nelly endeavour each day to combine culture of excellence, respect for humans and the environment with quality approach. An historic land for great wines. The terroir of the Montagne d’Alaric is distinguished by dominantly clay and limestone soil and the presence of stony terraces. The character of the terroir expresses itself in red wines with a sublime purple and ruby robe, a powerful and complex nose, combining spicy and floral notes and revealing a harmonious palate on absorbed tannins. ..
