Musée du Quercorb - Puivert

The Quercorb Museum, with its attractive displays, allows you to discover this fascinating little region. Visual and sound exhibits recreate everyday life in Quercorb at the beginning of the 20th century.

The "instrumentarium" is resonant with music and displays nine musical instruments of the middle ages that have been reconstructed on the model of the sculptures of musicians in Puivert Castle.

You can use headphones to listen to 9 Occitan troubadour "cansos" while you follow the words and medieval music reconstructed on goatskin parchment.

In the museum orchard there are displays including a still and a collection of objects related to harvesting fruit and processing it into fruit brand...
  Specialities

The Quercorb museum is devoted to the history and economy of the Quercorb area. Two historical orientations are developed. In the first part, there is a presentation of daily life at the beginning of the 20th century in the Quercorb.

The first part of the visit is to the reconstitution of a kitchen, element around which lives revolved at that period in history. The presentation is surprisingly ‘alive' thanks to sound effects. Local trades are also presented in the replica of the Nébias forge, the explanation of jet work (to make black jewellery which was very fashionable), a turner's workshop and a display of horn-comb manufacture.

In the second part, the museum explains the art of the troubadours and their profane medieval music. The Instrumentarium reproduces the Musicians' Room in the keep of the castle of Puivert. The sculptures of the eight musicians have been copied so that you may observe the medieval instruments more closely...

Malepère

A.O.C. Malepère

The Malepère region was awarded AOC status on May 2nd 2007. It is a hilly area south-west of the city of Carcassonne which is included in the appellation along with 31 other towns and villages. Although the area claims a great history of wine making it was in the 1970’s that the vineyards began to be replanted and VDQS status was granted. VDQS is the intermediary wine designation between Vin de Pays and AOC and is a testing ground for would-be AOC’s to prove that wines from all the producers share a common personality before they can be awarded full AOC status. Although an obscure region the Malepère is well worth a visit and offers a very different terrain to the more recognizable Languedoc appellations. There are many interesting medieval circular villages to visit. They were built this way to form ramparts to act as protection for the inhabitants. The Cathar religion was strong here and the area is immersed in history and folklore...

Limoux

A.O.C. Limoux

Limoux is best known for its sparkling wine, Blanquette de Limoux. This is reputed to be the oldest sparkling wine in France and dates back to 1531 when Benedictine monks from Saint Hilaire Abbey discovered that the wine they had laid down had fermented and formed bubbles. This was the beginning of Limoux’s bubbly - the Blanquette de Limoux which was the first AOC to be created in the Languedoc area. The process (the locals say) was stolen by Dom Perignon who went on to create ‘champagne‘. however the Limoux sparkling wine is a very high quality champagne substitute and Crémant, which was developed in 1990, has a top class reputation. Now a prestigious event attracting buyers from all over the world, “Toques & Clochers” puts up for auction the most promising barrels of AOC Limoux. A share of the proceeds are then used to finance the renovation of bell towers in surrounding villages. Every year the auction is hosted by one of France’s great chefs popularly referred to as a “Toques”, the traditional white chef’s hat....
