Experience an amazing place to visit ...
Rennes-le-Château offers a variety of sites to visit, where traces of François Bérenger Saunière, also known as the Abbé Saunière, can still be found: the Church of Saint Mary Magdalen (10th century), its gardens, the presbytery of the Abbé Saunière (where he lived from 1885 to 1917) which has been converted into a cultural and historical area, the Abbé Saunière's Estate, the Magdala tower, the Béthanie Villa and the orangery....
Musée de l'Abbé Saunière - Rennes-le-Château
Rennes Le Chateau, is located in Languedoc, France an unspoiled area of southern France. There are many mysteries surrounding Rennes Le Chateau that link with the Holy Grail, the Ark of Noah, the Ark of the Covenant and the treasures of the Temple of Solomon...
  Specialities

These mysteries have baffled researchers for hundreds of years. The modern reputation of Rennes-le-Château rises from rumors concerning the local priest in the late nineteenth century, Bérenger Saunière, who was alleged to have mysteriously acquired and spent large sums of money. He was even said to have visited several heads of state, though there is no evidence for this whatsoever.

From this point on Rennes-le-Château became the center of conspiracy theories claiming that Saunière uncovered hidden treasure and/or secrets about the history of the Church that threatened the foundations of Catholicism.

Since the mid-1950s, the area has become the focus of increasingly sensational claims involving the Knights Templar, the Priory of Sion, the Rex Deus, the Holy Grail, the treasures of the Temple of Solomon, the Ark of the Covenant, ley lines, geometric alignments, and others.

Elements of these ideas were later incorporated into Umberto Eco's 1989 novel Foucault's Pendulum, Dan Brown's bestselling 2003 novel 'The Da Vinci Code', and computer game Gabriel Knight III...

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Château d’Arques

Château d’Arques - Arques

In the heart of the village stands the birthplace of Déodat Roché (1877-1978), the historian of Catharism. To commemorate the village's illustrious son, the house today contains a permanent exhibition devoted to Catharism. It offers visitors 4 approaches to this religion that go beyond the purely religious: first, a historical approach; second, a spiritual approach; third a political approach; finally an approach devoted to everyday life among the Cathars. On the first floor a sound recording enables visitors to find out about Déodat Roché's life...

Château des Ducs
de Joyeuses

Château des Ducs de Joyeuses - Couiza

This listed 16th century chateau is located on extensive grounds on the banks of the River Aude. The ancient fortress-turned-hotel subtly blends medieval tradition with modern confort - and it has an excellent restaurant too (it is important that you reserve a table in advance). The house was built by Jean de Joyeuse, first Governor of Narbonne and Lieutenant General in Languedoc, between 1540 and 1550, and his son, Guillaume III assumed the job of completing this magnificant chateau after he died. With a beautiful courtyard where one can dine in the summer months, the castle is a very special place to stay. With a swimming pool and tennis court, the hotel is a perfect base to combine relaxation with good food. Close to Cathares and 30 km to Carcassonne, there many cathedrals and historic monuments to visit. The Chateau does not have an elevator, so if you have a problem with stairs this may not be the best choice for you....

Restaurant
Le Carnotzet

Restaurant Le Carnotzet - Couiza

This restaurant is nestled at the foot of Rennes le Chateau and bathes the mystery of Abbé Saunière. They offer all their passions with gourmet foods, a mixture of authentic cuisine and local gourmet cuisine. Actually like the Chef! ! Alain Ibert-Jorge . Rich in the kitchen of these origins, it also acquired its gourmet cuisine during his many years in Paris. It is not uncommon in Veronique and Franck , the seafood gratin lobster sauce Béarnaise Garbure borders on the space of a weekend on their slates suggestions. But do not forget what has served as an alibi the decoration of this place "a Savoyard chalet" the inevitable "specialties Savoyarde" squeegees , tartiflettes , melted and reblochonnade....

Maison
Déodat Roché

Maison Déodat Roché - Arques

Arques is the village which saw the birth of Déodat Roché (1877-1978), the historian of Catharism. Deodat Roche, founder of the Cahiers d'Etudes Cathares and a twentieth-century magistrate of Limoux and Carcassonne who was removed from his position by the Vichy government for his interest in religion and spirituality, wanted to lay bare to his contemporaries the light which the Cathars had tried to reveal to the medieval world. A self-proclaimed neo-Cathar, Roche believed deeply in the need to uncover the true history of the Cathars, which had been obscured by an intolerant medieval Church. His house is the location for a permanent exhibition devoted to Catharism and its interpretations....
