I discovered this discreet museum run by a true enthusiast, inexhaustible about everything to do with the Middle Ages, the guide strongly encourages to touch and try what is there. Immerse yourself in the universe.
1000 years of history… Interactive visit for young and old of an exhibition on the Middle Ages: weapons, archery, numismatics and illumination. History of chivalry and arms of the Romans during the Renaissance. Every Wednesday, Medieval fencing course with Maître Joël and Gilles for 2 to 6 people, from 12 years old, by reservation.
Very interesting and affordable museum where you can try on the costumes, be knighted and cross swords with a manager who can no longer be cultivated on the subject! |

Founded more than 20 years ago, Musée de la Chevalerie is the work of Gilles Alessandri, a medieval enthusiast who decided to share his passion by turning his collection into a museum. Formerly installed in the medieval city of Carcassonne, then in the old town of Narbonne, the Musée de la Chevalerie finally found its place not far from the Canal du Midi, in the small historic village of Villesèquelande, just 15 minutes from the city of Carcassonne...
You will discover the history of chivalry and various objects: tapestries, weapons, archery, numismatics and lighting, reliving life in the time of the knights. The museum shop also offers reproductions of tapestries, pillows, models, as well as medieval jewelry and costumes to keep young and old entertained...

The Malepère region was awarded AOC status on May 2nd 2007. It is a hilly area south-west of the city of Carcassonne which is included in the appellation along with 31 other towns and villages. Although the area claims a great history of wine making it was in the 1970’s that the vineyards began to be replanted and VDQS status was granted. VDQS is the intermediary wine designation between Vin de Pays and AOC and is a testing ground for would-be AOC’s to prove that wines from all the producers share a common personality before they can be awarded full AOC status. Although an obscure region the Malepère is well worth a visit and offers a very different terrain to the more recognizable Languedoc appellations. There are many interesting medieval circular villages to visit. They were built this way to form ramparts to act as protection for the inhabitants. The Cathar religion was strong here and the area is immersed in history and folklore...

The Cabardès region is situated to the west of Languedoc and to the south of the central massif, a geologist's dream, balanced between east and west, the sun and the coolness, the heathland and the mountain. It is here that the winds cross. They bring the intense mediterranean heat necessary for southern "cépages" (grape types) such as syrah and grenache, and the cool atlantic humidity for the ocean "cépages": merlot, cabernet-sauvignon, cabernet-franc, cot and fer-servadou, to prosper. The vineyards and wines of Cabardès have been recognized as AOC since february 1999. The quality of the grapes, the wine-making, the blending of the "cépages" and the keeping of the wines has allowed us to obtain the best balance between fruit and structure, fullness and complexity, intensity and elegance. Cabardès assembles 30 châteaux and domaines over 500 productive hectares spread amongst 18 villages. 20000 hectolitres are produced each year,of which 60% are exported....

You've probably passed by this restaurant without even
seeing it, it is true that we are far from the beautiful stone buildings in the
very special character "showy" which appear to be sometimes, mere "tourist
traps". In the restaurant Ghislaine Jean and their daughter, Delphine, offers
the basics: the generosity, friendliness and authenticity. Ghislaine kitchen,
every day as if it received friends, the kitchen is traditional with quality
products . Menus, hearty salads such as "greedy", foie gras mi-cuit house,
beautiful steaks and grilled specialties around the fish like monkfish with
shrimp and scallops or salmon-Jacques à la plancha cooked sauce Dill, served
with wines from local producers. In Summer you will share the terrace in the
shade of a weeping willow with visiting tourists and regulars...

Restaurant L'Ambrosia is located in Pezens a village nearby and west of Carcassonne.
A few minutes from Carcassonne, this establishment houses a kitchen that makes many happy. Behind a fairly classic decor, in an elegant setting, all red tinted, the chef enchants his customers by reinventing the products. With an obvious technique, the national classics are thus taken over and beautifully served. L'Ambrosia was already a class restaurant - but the new owners are now even better cooked. The lunch menu offers great value for money, with each course expertly prepared and presented. The asparagus soup with a 'oeuf parfait' was absolutely delicious. This was followed by magret de canard, again preparing to perfection. The young and enthusiastic staff are helpful and attentive, yet the overall atmosphere is very relaxed. Excellent. L'Ambrosia has since become a household name in Carcassonne and surroundings. For the gastronomic lovers a must!
