Musée Archéologique de Peyriac-de-Mer

The Archaeological Museum de Peyriac-de-Mer,
created by Henri Fabre in 1955, it brings together the product of excavations by the latter with Henri Barbouteau. Many traces show an occupation around the Doul since prehistoric times. The sarcophagus remains of St Paul reminds the implantation site of the old church and the location of the original village.
Musée Archéologique de Peyriac-de-Mer
In Gallo-Roman times, a habitat has been organized on the oppidum of the mill. The excavations have delivered a magnificent collection of amphorae and many everyday items. Finally, many vestiges of Roman colonization were found at the site of the ancient villas located near the Domitian.
  Peyriac de Mer

Between scrubland and old salt, a strip of land bordering the sea and sky ... Mediterranean fragrances, color changing landscape sculpted by the wind ...

A village where the shadow plays with light.

You can find out by taking the path of planks on stilts, admire the Doul or walk to the port to discuss with the last eel fisherman, then go back in the village with a stop at the Archaeological Museum and its temporary exhibitions, followed by a visit to the church of the fourteenth century, ending with refreshments in the cafe of the charming and traditional fountain.

Randonnée Les Etangs de Bages - Bages

The étang of Bages-Sigean - one of the typical lagoons of the French mediterranean coast. The kingdom of birds, realm of the pink flamingos. In antiquity, the river port of Narbonne was situated close to what is today the étang de Bages-Sigean. At the time the étang was a vast gulf, open to the sea where ships from across the mediterranean weighed anchor. It was called Lacus Rubresus by the Romans because of the alluvial silt, coloured by red earth from the high valley of the Aude. The gulf was protected by the islands of St Martin, St Lucie (which now belongs to the coastal conservation area) and La Clape, today joined to the mainland. . In the 15th century the gulf transformed into the lagoon, or étang we know today, covering 5500 hectares. It is linked to the sea by the narrow inlet of Port-la-Nouvelle. After many centuries as centre of a flourishing maritime commerce, the étang is now home to professional fishing boats - the traditional flat-bottomed bétous. Pleasure craft are also welcome (the traditional catalans) and professionals in nautical sports and activities propose courses and events all year round. Boating is an excellent way to get the most out of your visit to this magnificent natural landscape which shelters an exceptional flora and fauna, at the origin of the creation of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée regional natural park...

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés...
