Leucate Naturist Beach & Village

You get to it by heading North up the D627 past Port Leucate. On the left is the etang where many sail-boarders go and before the bridge there is a right turning signed to Naturist Villages and the Centre Conchicole. After taking the turning there is a roundabout, turning right and next left after some newly built apartments brings one to a narrow bridge There is more parking to be found without crossing the bridge unless one is lucky, however it is only a short paved walk to the beach between two of the naturist 'villages'. ' Aphrodite' on the left has a restaurant on the beach and 'Oasis' has a pizza/cafe next to its swimming pool. Fresh water showers are available, and the beach is public and without wandering voyeurs. By the way us naturists prefer not to be called 'nudists' Turning left at the aforementioned roundabout brings the happy motorist to the third village called Ulysses, or to fishermens' cafes for the consumption of fresh shellfish!
8 beaches in Leucate for a holiday by the sea in the south of France

The five entities of Leucate share 18 Km of sandy coastline. The width varies from 400 m (Coussoules in La Franqui) to a few meters (the sheltered strip of beach at the foot of the cliff of Leucate Plage). It’s Exposure due east allows the brave or the night-owls to admire fabulous sunrises. The lake of Leucate also has a few small cosy beaches but in contrast with the sea, the water is very shallow & warm. Fans of late-afternoon strolls, on holiday in Leucate, can revel in magnificent sunsets on the background of the Canigou and the Corbières. That alone is worth the trip.
Leucate Naturist Beach & Village
Port-Leucate’s nudist Beach is located on the left bank of the port, between the dam and the Grau de Leucate (oyster farmers). This long beach of about 1 km is reserved exclusively for naturists. There, we find many naturists residences (fenced). Public access is available at the centre with ample free parking. The beach is ideal for naturism because it is away from the other beaches. In the centre of the beach, there is a lifeguard station open during the summer season.

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Fitou

Fitou A.O.C.

The first "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée" wine of Languedoc-Roussillon, is only produced in nine small communal areas: FITOU, Caves, Treilles, Leucate and La Palme, which are all beside the sea, between Narbonne and Perpignan, and Cascastel, Paziols, Tuchan, and Villeneuve in the Corbières-Massif. Documents going back as far as Philip Augustus, Louis XIII and Louis XIV bear witness to the long-standing reputation of Fitou wines.Rabelais particularly appreciated "vin de Palme" which now has the "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Fitou" label. he vineyards in Fitou are set out on shaly and argilocalcareous soils with exceptional exposure to the sun. The countryside, whose relief consists in parts of hills and slopes and in others of plateaux, has the advantage of a particularly dry climate and is often swept by a high wind, the "Cers"...

Forteresse
de Salses

Forteresse de Salses - Salses-le-Château

This fortress was built between 1497 and 1504 on the order of Ferdinand the Catholic, King of Aragon, to keep France out of the Roussillon region. It was intended to replace the square castle with 27 metre sides located on a nearby peak. This small fortification was ill adapted to the art of warfare as it had developed at the end of the 15th century when metal ball artillery came into use. Designed by Francisco Ramiro Lopez, the king’s first artilleryman, the fortress of Salses is a masterpiece of military architecture, a notable example of the transition from medieval château (the fortress has a keep and round towers framing long curtains) to modern fortress (it is strictly geometrical with deep foundations). The property of the French State since 1930, the fortress of Salses is managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux, which opens the monument to the public. Some 100,000 people visit the fortress every year....
