Les Eaux Tranquilles - Belvianes et Cavirac

Les Eaux Tranquilles is located at the base of the Pyrenees at an altitude of 360m above sea level. The river Aude forms part of the garden. It is uniquely located and cannot be beaten by any other Bed and Breakfast in the region for its location. We are centrally located between Perpignan and Carcassonne (the City) just 4km south of Quillan at the entrance to the famous Gorge de la Pierre-Lys.

Set in two acres of private grounds with access by a private road it is an ideal place if you want peace and quiet during your holiday yet have excellent facilities such as banks, supermarkets, post office etc. nearby.

Les Eaux Tranquilles is a quiet riverside B&B in the Pyrenees with four individually styled en-suite rooms. Each room accommodates two people, one of the rooms (Fontainebleau) may be configured as a twin.

Free complimentary ‘French’ breakfast. Evening meals are available on request (24 hour notice required). We also offer demi-pension (half board) when you make your reservation.
Ideal for walking, sightseeing (Cathar Castles), mountain biking and more. Motorcyclists welcome.

Les Sources de Salz

Les Sources de Salz - Sougraigne

At Sougraigne on the Domaine de l'Eau Salée, the Sals gushes forth, a salt spring with up to 60g of salt per litre, and which historically has attracted many protagonists: glass makers, jet miners, charcoal burners, woodcutters, shepherds, pedlars and of course, salt smugglers and the customs officers on their heels. La Source Salée, the salt water source at the heart of the Domaine, a source of salmon-pink salt water gives birth to the river Sals. The salinity varies with the seasons. In the time of the unpopular Gabelle (salt tax), this source was the origin of a vigorous salt smuggling activity. In the time of the unpopular Gabelle (salt tax), this source was the origin of a vigorous salt smuggling activity. Customs officers were posted at the site to try to regulate the salt trade. The former guard house close to the source remains as a silent witness to this troubled period....

Rodeo Raft Belvianes

Rodeo Raft - Belvianes-et-Cavirac

Rafting and enjoying the wild nature in the Pyrenees. Rodeo Raft is located in Belvianes near Quillan. The centre is about one hour drive from Carcassonne and a great area to visit with lots more white water potential. The best time to sit is in early spring with the snow melt and a bit of rain fall. We got a dam release in the afternoon but Rodeo Raft can help with locations. In this wild, the descent offers both a challenge and a special relationship with water and nature. The river allows everyone to have fun while ensuring maximum safety. They also do canyoning, duckys (hotdogs) and hydrospeeds...

Dinosauria is the first dinosaur museum in Europe. It has 3,000 sq m of exhibition space where you'll find a magnificent collection of dinosaurs, fossils of reptiles, mammals, invertebrates and plants from this region and throughout the world. From the Cretaceous Period glasshouse, which shows what plants were like 70 million years ago, you can get a direct view of researchers working in the laboratory. During school holidays children aged 6-12 can be shown excavation techniques and learn how to be real palaeontologists. The museum is open to the public in July and August. The excavation site is the richest deposit of fossils in France, where ... 'Eva' was discovered....

Rennes les Bains

Rennes les Bains

In the early days in the Corbières at Rennes-les-Bains, when people were converted they were baptised. This was an essential major ceremony of the new Christianity and had the character of a covenant with God. Baptism washed away sin so one could begin a new life in which salvation and personal enlightenment were assured. Baptisms were whole body immersions and Mary was authorised to perform baptisms, unlike most women of the time. . . . complete immersion, including the hair, was the norm and among the observers, fellow Christians waiting to welcome the newcomer to the fold, one of them was appointed to ensure this complete immersion. The newcomer had to be completely naked. Then he or she was welcomed lovingly, with hugs and kisses, into the new Christian community. Where, 2,000 years ago in the region of Rennes-les-Bains, were there suitable places for whole body baptism? Just outside the town is the Fontaine d'Amours – lover's spring. If you bathe there together, your love will last forever. It's the tiniest mental leap here, from romantic love to everlasting and spiritual love. Did this legend come from the baptism, done in the new loving religion, that took place there, after which people hugged and kissed?...
