Les Celliers d’Orfée - Ornaisons

Our story was born in the hearts of women and men who take pride in the quality of their wines. A quality that today is the guardian of the fame of Les Celliers d'Orfée. That is why we pool our efforts and our resources to perpetuate the proof of our know-how. Every day more than a hundred members make the heart of our cellar beat faster. A virtuous investment supported by a cooperative spirit that is always part of the Celliers d'Orfée DNA.

As pioneers of the cooperative movement in France, we have always defended the values of the collective and the power of pooling. Our story is that of women and men driven by the idea that we move forward together.
Les Celliers d’Orfée - Ornaisons
La cave des Celliers d'Orfée unites the efforts of a group and improves the situation of everyone. We pool our resources, mutual aid is the basis of cooperation. A philosophy of life shared by generations of members.

Passion is unanimous and our family is large. The characters are strong as well the spiritual collective. Here the wine is made by a close-knit team because "Together we are stronger". A vision that is shared for many generations. We have been a cooperative cellar since 1933. Our wine lives, in body and mind.

Our vines are rooted in our land, the poppies dance there under the breath of the Cers, and the Mauve Sylvestre is added to this colorful ballet. Ladybugs and songbirds nest in our generous leaves, while hares and partridges prefer the safety of our vines.

Our vines buzz, the bees work and give life. Our winegrowers are also working to give the fruit and adapt their steps to the pulse of the earth. Watching nature is the time for observation. We preserve the richness of our terroirs and maintain the quality of our wines. Le Vivant makes our wines richer.
Les Celliers d’Orfée - Ornaisons
More than a hundred pairs of shoulders happily bear the responsibility for the quality of the wines of Celliers d'Orfée. This participatory drive commits us to the path of excellence. An ambition that inspires new collective and innovative methods, such as our classification system. At Les Celliers d´Orfée, members evaluate the vines of other members: every February the winegrowers receive our specifications, which are even more demanding than those of the appellations. The affiliated winegrowers then communicate to us the category A, B or C corresponding to the quality of their production (our classification requirements relate to: the pruning method, the management of the vineyard, the leaf area, the hygienic condition and the yield.

Corbières

A.O.P. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Sentier
La Forêt
de Fontfroide

La Forêt de Fontfroide - Narbonne

The original religious foundation on this site was a Benedictine establishment. The position is in a classic situation for a Benedictine abbey, tucked into a narrow, sheltered valley remote from the outside world. It is located in the Corbières area in the Aude département, just off the Autoroute between Narbonne and Carcassonne. The Cistercian Abbey of Fontfroide was founded in 1145, and became one of the most important and richest Cistercian abbeys in the Midi. It was the murder of a monk from Fontfroide, the papal legate Pierre de Castelnau, at dawn, on the 15th of January 1208, that provided Pope Innocent III with his pretext for the Cathar Crusade. Olivier de Termes is though to be buried here in the chapel of Saint Bernard (dedicated to Bernard of Clairvaux), which he founded. One of Fontfroide's abbots, Jacques Fournier, became Bishop of Pamiers in 1317 and a keen inquisitor (responsible for the arrest of the village of Montaillou)...
