Banyuls-Sur-Mer

Banyuls-Sur-Mer

Banyuls sur Mer shelters at the feet of the Albères hills, where terraced vineyards plunge down to meet the sea. This is also the homeland of the sculptor Maillol. A village, a beach and a port hidden away in a fold of the Pyrenees, that's what you will find at the foot of Cap Béar. Banyuls-sur-Mer is the last stop before Spain and is surrounded by quays that run alongside the Allées Maillol, where artists have set up their studios. Explore the picturesque little stepped side streets and, when evening comes, with the music of the Sardana as a background, you can enjoy a Banyuls, the wonderful aperitif that takes its name from the wine produced here. Old farmhouses, Catalan fishing-boats, vines that tumble down towards the sea, silver-leaved olive trees: this is a place where traditions have been preserved intact, a place where time stands still… So, hoist the flag ad drop the anchor in Banyuls, where the motto is “In mare via tua”! (Your road lies upon the sea). Things to see & do: Cap Rédéris, with its amazing views of sea and mountains - the museum and tomb of Aristide Maillol in the sculptor’s former workshop - aquarium and sea observatory - wine cellars of the famous sweet wine of Banyuls...

Collioure

Collioure

Collioure is an extremely popular tourist destination that only has one road in and out. So if you decide to visit in the peak hoilday season i.e. July and August then expect some queueing and difficulty parking. So of course visiting at other times of the year would be preferable, especially say June or September; far less manic and still a very good chance of some great weather. That said, if your only chance of visiting Collioure is July or August, then its still worth it. There is a good reason that all the Fauve artists made it their meeting place. Artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, André Derain, Georges Braque, Othon Friesz, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Tsuguharu Fujita have all been inspired by Collioure's royal castle, medieval streets and its lighthouse converted into the church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges. Plus the clarity of the blue skies and sea have to be seen to be believed. For the tourist, you can wander down to the sea front and find a little cafe or restaurant that practically extends itself onto the little pebble beach and just sit down for the most wonderful lunch of fresh fish or seafood accompanied by a glass or two of the local vino, Collioure AOC being one of the smallest vignards in France . In a place like Collioure it would almost be rude not to. After lunch you can stroll over to the beach and just sit and watch the world go by, boats going in and out of the port and like I said after lunch has been digested taking a boat trip out along the coastline is a very nice way to while away a couple more hours. Of course there is a pretty interesting history to discover in Collioure, the Château Royal de Collioure and the Fort Saint-Elme stronghold being two of the most prominent fortifications. The fortifications exist mainly because of the toing and froing of the Spanish and the French as they struggled over the occupation of the Catalan regions. The Spanish lost Collioure back to the French for the last time in 1794...

Céret

Céret

Vertaaltypen Tekstvertaling Brontekst 1819 / 5000 Vertaalresultaten Céret is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, in southeastern France. It is located on the Tech River. Ceret is famous for its Musee d'Art Moderne (Museum of Modern Art), which has numerous Picasso paintings, sculptures and ceramics, including the famous bull-fighting bowl series. The museum also features paintings by Chagall, Matisse, Herbin, Soutine, many Fauves, and a few Impressionists. The top floor of the museum houses touring exhibitions. The Pont du Diable (Devil's Bridge) is a single arch stone bridge built between 1321 and 1341. With a single span of 45.45 m, it was the world's largest arch bridge in terms of span at the time of construction. Ceret is especially famous for its cherries. The first of the season's pick is sent to the French president according to local tradition. Ceret organizes a cherry festival every year with rarities such as cherry beer and a cherry pit spitting contest. The cherry season is during the end of April and May. Ceret also holds an annual running of the bulls festival, known as La Feria, where young bulls (usually with their blunt horns) run through the streets, herded together by a group of highly skilled Camargue riders and women. The feria is always held on the weekend closest to the 14th of July, the storming of the Bastille. The Saturday market in Ceret is a highlight of the week and is a social event. It is a bustling, busy market, mainly selling local products. Fresh fruit and vegetable stalls are next to the man who sells boudins (sausages) blanc and noir. The olive shed is a must see, where you can choose from a wide range of dried and marinated olives. The local cheese makers sell all of the delicious fresh cheeses...

Le Perthus

Le Perthus

Le Perthus is located 271 m above sea level, on the hill of the same name. The originality of Perthus (in Catalan El Portús) lies in the fact that the demarcation of the border in 1659, the Treaty of the Pyrenees, allowed him to train in both French and Spanish territory, just cross the street to change the country. Moreover the communal territory (420 hectares) between Roussillon and Vallespir, offers countless opportunities for nature discoveries or on the Alberes whose last foothills bathe in the Mediterranean or the mountains of Vallespir. This characteristic has favored the development of trade-related activities. Le Perthus (about 580 inhabitants French side) is a large shopping center on both sides of the border which is materialized by two terminals, one at the beginning of the Spanish Quarter, the other end of the village background. Shopping: ready to wear, perfume jewelry, leather goods, food, liquor, souvenirs... Gastronomy: bar, tapas bars, regional cuisine, many gourmet restaurants...
