Symbol and pride of the Catalan Pyrenees, Le Train Jaune offers an exceptional view of the Tet Valley and the plateau of Cerdagne. The Train Jaune, also called the canary because of its color, connects Villefranche-de-Conflent (427 meters) with Latour-de-Carol (1232 meters) on a 63 km track and climbs with 1200 meters of difference in altitude to the highest station of France 'Bolquère' at 1593 meters. It takes approx. 3 hours from one end of the line to the other, during which you have plenty of time to photograph the landscape of the Têt Valley and the Cerdan Plateau.
60 km of architectural masterpieces in the Catalan Pyrenees ... The Train Jaune railway, built at the turn of the century, was intended to link the Catalan highlands with the rest of the department. The first works in 1903 made it possible from 1910 to link Villefranche-de-Conflent with Mont-Louis. The last line was not completed until 1927 when it reached Latour-de-Carol. It currently maintains its original layout in an environment of beautiful mountain scenery. The construction of this route thus required 650 constructions, including 19 tunnels and two remarkable bridges: the Séjourné viaduct (suspended 65 m above the ground) and the Gisclard bridge (80 m above the ground) above an abyss, so that the yellow train of the Pyrenees can play with the relief... |

Of the 650 structures built for the commissioning of this railway line, two are remarkable: the Gisclard bridge and the Séjourné bridge. Built between 1905 and 1909, the Gisclard Bridge is the first metal railway bridge built in France. It is classified as a historical monument. This land bridge was designed and developed by Albert Gisclard, commander of Suspension Bridge Engineering. This bridge makes it possible to cross the Têt at a height of 80 meters. The Séjourné bridge is a railway viaduct that allows it to span the Têt and the national road 116. Designed by Paul Séjourné, Bridges and Roads engineer, it was built between 1906 and 1908. These two bridges are real engineering feats... Language(s):

Mont-Louis - city of the Sun King - The citadel is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Mont-Louis, is one of nine towns entirely built by France's greatest military architect, Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. In 1679, Louis XIV approved the financing of Mont-Louis, defending the passage to the Roussillon region of France. Inaugurated in 1681, Mont-Louis completed the line of defences stretching from Mediterranean Sea. Created from scratch by Vauban, it is a perfect example of 17th century fortified military architecture in which Vauban was able to express his creativity fully. Mont-Louis still has a military function today—the National Commando Training Centre — the Centre National d’Entraînement Commando – is housed in the citadel buildings. The history of the site is recounted in several guided tours of the citadel and the Puits des Forçats area, but you are also free to wander round at your leisure. The church has lots of baroque art treasures, while walking along the pathway at the foot of the ramparts, you can appreciate the genius of Vauban and the beauty of the site...
