Heading towards the centre of the village, cross the bridge over the Orbieu and, in front of the belfry climb a few steps to the left in the Impasse de l’Horloge to join the centre of the village a little further on. Turn left in the rue des Nobles, take the avenue des Vignerons then the rue de la Pinède (nice wrought iron wayside cross). Both mountain bikers and hikers share this part of the trail. After the housing development, you’ll get a nice view on the vineyards stretching out on the hillside as well as the Ferrals hills just behind them. You’ll walk uphill on this country road, a dry-stone wall to the right, and terraced plots with pine, almond, olive and cypress trees to boot.
When the road forks, continue on the path uphill both itineraries share. To your right you’ll see the basin of La Prade, with vineyards liable to flooding, with its garrigue isle planted right in the middle and with its vestiges of former sheep barns. To your left, the garrigue has taken over the terraced plots of formerly cultivated land, lined with low walls and planted with pine trees.
On the top of the hill, you’ll leave the joint path and turn left (north / north-east) on the path lined with almond trees which crosses the Lauza. Several hillocks with garrigue, pine trees, olive trees, holm oaks and walls made of the stones that were removed from the fields make up the landscape, together with the hillside vineyards. |

One sheep barn still has its shed roof (for protection against the dominant Cers wind). To the left, a path leads to the superb viewpoint indicator, made of Ferrals stone. The view really is worth the short roundtrip.
Soon the Boutenac pine wood with its lookout post will appear in the distance (south-east) before the northward bound descent will allow you to contemplate another view, this time over the Minervois region, the Montagne Noire and its highest point, the Pic de Nore (1211 m) and, closer by, the Lézignan pine wood massif and the village of Conilhac. After having walked alongside a low wall, you’ll reach the remains of the sheep barn de la Martine (landmark A on the ‘Sentier vigneron des Corbières’ / ‘Corbières wine-grower’s path’).
You’ll start your way back by turning left. Walk down a rough track then uphill again on a small track in a pine wood area (view on the Lézignan plain and on the village at the foot of Mont Alaric). The path is lined with dry-stone walls and surrounded by terraced plots, wild or planted fruit trees (olive, fig, almond, blackberry bush) and vineyards. Once you get to the D161, turn left and walk past the Wine Cooperative back to the village.

Domaine du Grand Crès |

In 1989, the opportunity arose for the former manager of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti to buy five hectares of vines in the hills of the Corbières appellation. Overlooking the valley near Lagrasse, at a height of 300 meters, the plot was surrounded by heath and the « garrigues » scrubland, thus providing the possibility of further planting. Pascaline et Hervé Leferrer set about equipping a cellar in the middle of the village and progressively cleared and prepared areas of this rocky, limestone-clay plateau where, despite it being difficult to reach, the Vines are most definitely in their element. For their red wines, they planted Syrah and Grenache and for their whites, Roussanne, Viognier and Muscat. They have recently bought 2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, so that since 2006 vintage, they can a vin de Pays d’OC as entry of range (bottles and Bag In Box). Domaine du Grand Crès, now, owns 19 hectares...

Restaurant "Les Calicots", located in the heart of old
town Fabrezan, between the medieval tower (12th century) and church (13th
century). In a renovated former haberdashery Geraldine and Olivier will welcome
you in a setting of full authenticity. A wide selection of regional wines will
be offered. "We were lucky enough to travel through this wonderful village, and
our visit was highlighted by Les Calicots, and their welcoming owners. They
offer different menus which are very imaginative, that bring together the
freshest ingredients from the region in traditionnal recipes. The setting &
atmosphere is of the medieval architecture. Casual & relaxed, you want to come
back for more. We also enjoyed walking through the narrow cobble-stone streets
that surroung the restaurant"...
