Oyster farming technique "Ostréiculteur à Leucate".
A passion with respect for tradition and environment is certainly what makes the value and richness of our oyster farming profession on the Mediterranean or Atlantic coast

Oyster farming, in the respect of tradition.
We use the traditional farming technique as used in the Mediterranean, that is to say oyster farming on "breeding tables". All these tables (ours and those of our colleagues, we speak of concessions) is the shellfish area of Salses Leucate. These breeding tables, in the current state, exists since 1968 in the Etang de Salses / Leucate and we would like to point out, our trade, the oyster farming, the breeding and the production of oysters, is a activity that has a very low environmental impact. So do not hesitate to eat our oysters in good conscience!

Our artisanal fishing activity in Leucate.
The fishing that we practice on the Etang of Leucate and in the Mediterranean is with fishing nets. It is done on the pond or at sea according to the season. So we fish for sea bream in the pond, turbot and sole at sea. In our nets, we also fish red mullet, cuttlefish, octopus etc ...

Sale fish and shellfish.
All our seafood, seashells and fish are on sale at the Mas Bleu stall. Do not hesitate to contact us for a particular request.

Forteresse de Salses

Forteresse de Salses - Salses-le-Château

This fortress was built between 1497 and 1504 on the order of Ferdinand the Catholic, King of Aragon, to keep France out of the Roussillon region. It was intended to replace the square castle with 27 metre sides located on a nearby peak. This small fortification was ill adapted to the art of warfare as it had developed at the end of the 15th century when metal ball artillery came into use. Designed by Francisco Ramiro Lopez, the king’s first artilleryman, the fortress of Salses is a masterpiece of military architecture, a notable example of the transition from medieval château (the fortress has a keep and round towers framing long curtains) to modern fortress (it is strictly geometrical with deep foundations). The property of the French State since 1930, the fortress of Salses is managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux, which opens the monument to the public. Some 100,000 people visit the fortress every year...

Plage de la Franqui, Plage des Coussoules

Plage de la Franqui, Plage des Coussoules

La Franqui and its beach of Les Coussoules with 5 miles of fine sand has a claim to be the oldest seaside resort on the Languedoc coast. In the past it was a port of call for Phoenician and Roman galleys, today la Franqui is a Kingdom of kiteboarding, windsurfing and landsailing. Every genuine beach or seaside resort has been granted an exceptional location by the gods. La Franqui is no exception. The oldest seaside resort on the Langudoc coast nestles in a pine forest that backs onto the rocky plateau of Cap Leucate, at the foot of the only cliffs that exist between Marseille and Port-Bou. Fronting the resort is Coussoules beach with its 5 miles of fine sand that stretch lazily from la Grande Bleue to l’Etang de la Palme. As a backdrop, there is la Clappe massif, Mount Saint-Clair and Canigou peak. The array of colours is striking: the cerulean blue of the sea, the murky green of l’étang (lake), the golden yellow sand, the dazzling white of the cliffs and the green of the scrubland. Who could ask for more? The area was frequented formerly by Paul Gauguin, then by Charles Trenet and today by Jérôme Savary. This tiny resort which is a locality in the district of Leucate has managed to escape the ravages of concrete and modernity...

Leucate Naturist Beach & Village

Leucate Naturist Beach & Village

You get to it by heading North up the D627 past Port Leucate. On the left is the etang where many sail-boarders go and before the bridge there is a right turning signed to Naturist Villages and the Centre Conchicole. After taking the turning there is a roundabout, turning right and next left after some newly built apartments brings one to a narrow bridge There is more parking to be found without crossing the bridge unless one is lucky, however it is only a short paved walk to the beach between two of the naturist 'villages'. ' Aphrodite' on the left has a restaurant on the beach and 'Oasis' has a pizza/cafe next to its swimming pool. Fresh water showers are available, and the beach is public and without wandering voyeurs. By the way us naturists prefer not to be called 'nudists' Turning left at the aforementioned roundabout brings the happy motorist to the third village called Ulysses, or to fishermens' cafes for the consumption of fresh shellfish!...
