Le Jardin de Marie - Rennes-le-Château

Set in the heart of Cathar country, at the centre of the Mystery of Rennes-le-Chateau, the Jardin de Marie has been serving those on a quest, journey or even just the hungry for many years. For many, the mystery of Rennes-le-Château is one that has yet to be explained. This mystery focuses upon the story of Father Bérenger Saunière, the humble priest who changed the course of Rennes-le-Château's fortunes forever.
Le Jardin de Marie - Rennes-le-Château
Our restaurant is set in his and his housekeeper's, Marie Dénarnaud, garden, the Jardin de Marie. In these gardens you will meet Morgan Marrot who has taken over the restaurant in recent years and in 2019, renovated the space to give a modern yet rustic feel. Come and visit Morgan and the team as we delight you with our South-Western cuisine.

Our restaurant is available for private events: weddings, business lunches, dinners, cocktail receptions, and more. We would love to discuss how to be a part of your next event.

We refuse to compromise on quality in our restaurant. That's why we source most our fresh ingredients from local traders.

Randonnée Le Pech de Bugarach

Shrowded in mystery, myth and legend, the peak of Mount Bugarach majestically dominates the wider area around Rennes-le-Château. Calmly looking upwards to the sky, the face of this dormant volcano was once believed to have been given the facial features of Christ by God himself when his only son was taken to the area. That is not the only legend in local folklore that surrounds this mountain. What is fact is that it’s not just an ordinary mountain. It’s a geo-il-logical mountain. Illogical in the sense that the top of the mountain is millions of years older than the bottom. It’s lying upside down as a result of the massive geological forces that created the Pyrenees mountains. A circular walk to Pic Bugarach starting and finishing in the village and passing the Cascade de Mathieux and La Fenêtre...

Maison Déodat Roché

Maison Déodat Roché - Arques

Arques is the village which saw the birth of Déodat Roché (1877-1978), the historian of Catharism. Deodat Roche, founder of the Cahiers d'Etudes Cathares and a twentieth-century magistrate of Limoux and Carcassonne who was removed from his position by the Vichy government for his interest in religion and spirituality, wanted to lay bare to his contemporaries the light which the Cathars had tried to reveal to the medieval world. A self-proclaimed neo-Cathar, Roche believed deeply in the need to uncover the true history of the Cathars, which had been obscured by an intolerant medieval Church. His house is the location for a permanent exhibition devoted to Catharism and its interpretations....

Château de Puivert

Château de Puivert - Puivert

Puivert Castle, locally known as Château de Puivert, lies near the village with the same name, west of the town of Quillan in the Languedoc-Roussillion region in France. Of all the Cathares castles, Puivert Castle certainly is one of the best preserved. It was built in the 14th century. With its 35 meters high keep in which four splendid rooms are superimposed, its 6 towers incorporated in its enclosure wall, this castle dominates the old glacial lake of Puivert below. One of the rooms in the keep has very nice carvings of 8 characters with medieval musical instruments on its walls. You can climb to the top of the keep which offers a great view on the Quercorb plain to north, to the west of Montségur Castle with the summits of the Pyrenees behind it and to the east of the peak of Bugarach...
