La Serre de Roquefort-des-Corbières

This journey from Roquefort des Corbières, long ago was close to our heart and it is time to do it before the summer heat has settled. The absence or rather the rarity of the shade and the water are put here. La Tramontane is also to be taken into account, although we do not find it extremely unpleasant. Under these conditions, this loop-shaped route will allow you to enjoy the scenery in complete tranquility from the heights. The clad yellow markings are present and well visible and precise. The start of the walk takes place between Cellier de Roquefort and the Café du Marché, at the mural. Go to the rue des Trois-Moulins and follow the Chemin Camin-del-Bosc about 300 meters. This route is also used for Le Sentier Cathare. Then take the Chemin de la Triolle to the right, leading to the exit of the village. The road leads along vineyards and passes into a narrow path surrounded by scrubland (garrigues) and fragrant pine trees, and then follow a footpath for a few hundred meters before turning left onto the Plateau Vabina. The progress will work well, the landscapes are amazing and soon one after another appears by following the path. Pastoral history shows itself well, which has to be placed in the context of time and seems to be well-helped by the idyllic landscape. This conclusion on our part is certainly wrong? Because I assume that the hardness of the lives of the shepherds, in spite of this exceptional framework, undoubtedly can not be characterized, the ease with which the paths are marked here can be seen. These routes, which were not then, not even the recreation areas, our ancestors had no knowledge of the leisure activities we know them today. With these thoughts we can put their lives in a more just context. The shelters, the ruins, the sheep birds and even an avenue surpass each other on the trail, sometimes magnificent by the beautiful panoramas where you can not keep your eyes off..
Finally, at the periphery of a vineyard we are confronted with convincing evidence of old military borders. Information coming to us, marked by the Via Domitia traces of all Roman milestones (1481m.). The indications engraved by this route indicate the distant remains of the different provinces and the name of the emperor who initiated the works. Our itinerary is almost curly and we quickly return to our starting point, the eyes full of grandiose landscapes and enriching the mind with a little more history. Nice to do or to do again!

Roquefort-des-Corbières is a very pretty wine village located between Narbonne and Perpignan, 7 minutes drive from many beaches.

For fervent hikers there are easy walks such as the Saint Martin tour, a short walk through shady pine forests, as well as more challenging hikes, such as a 17 km long signposted loop through the vineyards and the mountainous Serre de Roquefort. Two famous old paths cross the village: Sentier Cathare and La Via Domitia, some of which traces and beautiful milestones are still visible.

Plage de la Franqui, Plage des Coussoules

Plage de la Franqui, Plage des Coussoules

La Franqui and its beach of Les Coussoules with 5 miles of fine sand has a claim to be the oldest seaside resort on the Languedoc coast. In the past it was a port of call for Phoenician and Roman galleys, today la Franqui is a Kingdom of kiteboarding, windsurfing and landsailing. Every genuine beach or seaside resort has been granted an exceptional location by the gods. La Franqui is no exception. The oldest seaside resort on the Langudoc coast nestles in a pine forest that backs onto the rocky plateau of Cap Leucate, at the foot of the only cliffs that exist between Marseille and Port-Bou. Fronting the resort is Coussoules beach with its 5 miles of fine sand that stretch lazily from la Grande Bleue to l’Etang de la Palme. As a backdrop, there is la Clappe massif, Mount Saint-Clair and Canigou peak. The array of colours is striking: the cerulean blue of the sea, the murky green of l’étang (lake), the golden yellow sand, the dazzling white of the cliffs and the green of the scrubland. Who could ask for more? The area was frequented formerly by Paul Gauguin, then by Charles Trenet and today by Jérôme Savary. This tiny resort which is a locality in the district of Leucate has managed to escape the ravages of concrete and modernity...

La Chapelle Notre Dame des Oubiels - Portel-des-Corbières

Notre Dame des Oubiels is first a majestic ruin, historical monument of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, situated between vineyards and olive trees. Het is bereikbaar door het dorp uit te wandelen, om er aangename momenten door te brengen temidden van kreupelhout met het uitzicht op Portel-des-Corbières. With fine weather, many Portel hikers arrives, walkers and tourists. Their first visit is the old ruined church, La Chapelle Notre Dame des Oubiels. And the questions are always the same: when was this church built? What is the origin of its name? Why they have built so far from the village? By whom has it been destroyed? We will try to respond succinctly. The ruins of this old church, Notre Dame des Oubiels (lambs), are located a kilometer west of the village, built near the défilé de la Reïnadouïre (la Reine des eaux), crossed by the river Berre...
