Hostellerie du Grand Duc - Gincla

Tucked away in a shelter of greenery in the small village of Gincla in the haute vallée de l’Aude at the heart of the cathar country , the Hostellerie du Grand Duc will delight you with its charm and tranquillity.

An old manor dating from 1780, and abandoned for years, the house was aquired by the Bruchet family in the seventies;

The hostellerie thereafter was completely renovated, where now wood and old stones are harmonised to create a serene environment.

For more into perfecting their work, weither it concerns general know how or creative cooking in order to satisfy their customers.

It became a family business as soon as their children began to work with them , in order to continue this beautiful adventure....
  Specialities

Surrounded by its shaded park , the Hostellerie enables you to have a pleasant stay at the hotel in one of our rooms of various styles , or quite simply for a gastronomical stop in our restaurant , or in the park , in the shade of the lime trees...

It is in a nice bright room with stone walls that we welcome you. Our elegantly set tables allow you to make a relaxing and gastronomic background of classical music. On each table, bronze lamps, give the evening a warm and intimate aspect.

You can also, in summer, enjoy our terrace for a lunch in the cool of the pool or in the evening for a romantic dinner by candlelight.

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Les Gorges
de Galamus

Les Gorges de Galamus - Cubières-sur-Cinoble / Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet

3 miles north of Saint Paul, the awe-inspired site of the Gorges of Galamus is an imposing, protected place. It probably was the first inhabited place in Saint Paul: our ancestors found shelter in the limestone caves that can be seen in the giddy cliffs . The river Agly rushes down a deep break, much to the pleasure of the adepts of canyoning and rafting. Typical mediterranean plants grow on its steep slopes, such as evergreen oaks, jumper trees while Bonneli eagles soar over the winding narrow road that clings to the cliff. To the South, the impressive Gorges de la Fou, cut through the mountain - the exact replica of galamus - opens to the South and the gallo-Roman bridge....

Château de Peyrepertuse

Château de Peyrepertuse - Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse

Sandwiched between two walls of folded Cretaceous limestone in the Pyrenees, Corbieres and Capron, the land of mountains Duilhac only. As its inhabitants were given the nickname "Skip-rock" (rock-jumping). Clinging to the rocky heights of the High Corbières, at an altitude of 800 metres. Peyrepertuse emerges from the midst of the Mediterranean scrubland known as the "garrigue" and overlooks the small village of Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse. This huge fortress covers the same area as the citadel of Carcassonne. Each year the largest medieval festival in the South of France takes place here when many troupes perform in the castle and in a reconstructed medieval village...

Rodeo Raft Belvianes

Rodeo Raft - Belvianes-et-Cavirac

Rafting and enjoying the wild nature in the Pyrenees. Rodeo Raft is located in Belvianes near Quillan. The centre is about one hour drive from Carcassonne and a great area to visit with lots more white water potential. The best time to sit is in early spring with the snow melt and a bit of rain fall. We got a dam release in the afternoon but Rodeo Raft can help with locations. In this wild, the descent offers both a challenge and a special relationship with water and nature. The river allows everyone to have fun while ensuring maximum safety. They also do canyoning, duckys (hotdogs) and hydrospeeds...

Axat

Axat

Axat is a pretty tourist town dituated on the D118 in the high valley of Aude. Surrounded by mountains and gorges, the narrowest Gorges St Georges is only 3 km away. The River Aude runs through Axat making a picturesque setting and a popular whitewater sport location. 300 metres of fly fishing stretches where the quality of oxygen in the water attracts salmon and trout. A 100-year-old railway the 'Pays Cathare Tourist Train' links Axat to Rivesaltes. 60 km of track running over impressive viaducts and through tunnels on open air carriages. Also here a fabulous outdoor swimming pool open June to September with great mountain views.
