Between the La Buade mill
and Termes, the road, constructed in 1903, passes through two tunnels in the
Gorges du Termenet cut by the Sou.
The steep walls of the Gorges consist of rocks of the middle and lower Devonian periods. In the centre a beautiful vein of red marble runs the height of the cliffs. The
Gorges is in a protected area.
South of Termes, upstream of the Saint Andrew chapel and still on the Sou, there is another protected natural site -the gorge of Coyne
Pont. This also cuts through rock of the lower Devonian period.
The middle section forms a bowl and in part of the river bed a jumble of travertine rocks indicates a collapsed natural bridge. (Coyne
Pont means "the cave bridge" in Occitan)... |

Termes, at the foot of the castle hill, on a south facing slope, is in a bend of the river Sou. There are about 50 inhabitants living here and in the farms around.
The t's small streets, where you will find the Church of the Nativity. The overfloow of the watertank above the village flows down the streets, giving a refresched ambiance in this dry Corbières-countryside.
2006 was the year of great workings onto the streets, and the year of a special urbanistic price, because of the quality and originality of it's plan.
The flowering-efforts of the people and the municipality where also recognized in 2009 : Termes now has the "Flowered-village"-label, given by the "Comité national des villes et villages fleuries"...

The Château de Termes is a ruined castle near the village of Termes in the Aude département of the Languedoc. Built on a promontory it is defended on three sides by deep ravines. The ruins of the castle cover an area of 16.000m².

|
|
 |
|
|
Throughout this journey, there are sculptures by artists exposed in nature. In an exceptional natural site, on an art tour and hiking opening onto the vast landscape of the Corbières, the Path sculptural Mayronnes presents contemporary sculptures in the countryside, vineyards and scrublands, located in the landscape component with him. Mayronne(s) is a hamlet in the Corbieres hills, near Lagrasse. It hosts a stunning free sculpture trail 5km (two hours 30 minutes) long. There are permanent sculptures and an annual exhibition April – September. Sculptures are amusing, puzzling and breathtaking. The walk would be stunning even without the sculptures and it is a magical experience.
Very few people know it’s there...

Sentier Le Gourg de Talairan |
 |
|
Talairan, fortified village. You can walk through the vineyards at the edge of the cliffs and the dried up river Nielle. You can also admire the clear waters of Gourg Goutonnier...
Leave the village on the D323. You’ll walk past a basin (known as the “lavoir à pétales”, the petal washtub), extremely pleasant during the warm summer months. Take the chemin de la Croisette which will take you to the Notre-Dame-de-l’Ere chapel. Follow for about 600 m, before climbing the Buffanel on a small path to the left through the garrigue on the edge of the superb Gorges of the Nielle stream, twisting and turning 100 m below.
Walk up along the gorges on a small ridge path, and continue alongside a fenced vineyard...
