Gîte de la Cougarde - Mouthoumet

Gîte de la Cougarde - Mouthoumet

Gîte de la Cougarde is ideally located for visiting the Cathar country: it is close to the Cathar castles, natural sites of swimming in the gorges but also hiking trails (the GR36 passes Mouthoumet).

The richness of the fauna and flora of this part of the Aude allowed its classification Natura 2000.

You will enjoy a stay of discovery and disorientation in a small village, Mouthoumet (altitude 550 m), in the Aude.

The little village of Mouthoumet is found in the Aude department of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the south of France. With its narrow streets and houses built from ancient stones, Mouthoumet epitomises this inland region of the south, unassuming, peaceful and seemingly little changed over centuries...
  Specialities

"We have enjoyed our stay in your gite very much. Everything we needed we could find, so it was a pleasure to live in. Daan-Henk was very pleased to be able to sleep in a "high" bed where he could touch the roof and Annemarÿn slept like a rose in her babybed. You have done a great job in decorating the house, it's marvelous and evey time we stepped inside we felt at home. The house is also situated in a beautiful area. From here we could easily ride to all the destinations we had in mind. As well as the castles and abbey's as the nature is wonderful. You are very fortunate to live in such a countryside and it is a great job to let us feel at home in it! Thank you very much."

"What a good idea to come to Mouthoumet in May! The roses are in bloom everywhere, some are red fields of poppies, the Cathar castles tell their story in a better light and sun with a sparse audience, in the forest, houses forest that had to be that of the 7 dwarfs Snow White or the one that greeted the witch Hansel and Gretel ... Finally, the roads of the High Corbières green, green with beautiful hardwood ... and guests places Christelle and Laurent, value = shared trust. Thank you for this life "

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Château d’Arques

Château d’Arques - Arques

In the heart of the village stands the birthplace of Déodat Roché (1877-1978), the historian of Catharism. To commemorate the village's illustrious son, the house today contains a permanent exhibition devoted to Catharism. It offers visitors 4 approaches to this religion that go beyond the purely religious: first, a historical approach; second, a spiritual approach; third a political approach; finally an approach devoted to everyday life among the Cathars. On the first floor a sound recording enables visitors to find out about Déodat Roché's life...

Mon Grain de Sel is located in a small village, Soulatgé nearby Cucugnan, a few miles on the road of the Cathar castles. The boss that you receive is an excellent cook and also very warm. These dishes are only made with fresh products supplied by farmers in the area. Taste its delicious "beef cheek sauce medieval" and his lemon tart a real treat. 2 menus one at 16 € and 20 € and map. L'Auberge

"Chez Divine"

L'Auberge du Terroir 'Chez Divine' - Mouthoumet

Auberge dining is what we search for in Rural France: discover Chez Divine, Auberge du Terroir which epitomises this quest. Situated in the tiny square of Mouthoumet, you could be excused for passing by assuming the blue shuttered building to be someone’s home. With a side entrance, the menu board is flanked by two beautifully manicured box shrubs – the only contemporary styling to be found here. Chez Divine’s interior evokes the same cosy ambiance - a waitress will soon direct you to a waiting table laid with a huge, brightly coloured ceramic jug full of icy water next to a basket of fresh bread. Relax and pass leisurely moments studying the surprisingly extensive menu: an á la carte section listing salads and grills followed by expansive complete menu options of regional dishes, cheese and homemade desserts....

Restaurant La Rôtisserie - Villerouge-Termenès

The authentically restored décor, along with the fare from its kitchens, will carry you back in time to the 14th century. Everything here combines to make you feel a part of the Middle Age: The exceptional furniture , the apparel of the Château’s noblemen and their footservants , the utensils and the tableware, which includes not only dishes but decorative items too, have all been recreated on the basis of archeological evidence and documentary sources from the region . And when your trencher is put before you, it will reveal the surprising flavours and culinary refinements of a bygone era....
