The Aude offers many, many events. Festivals, concerts, parades, expositions and events are organised throughout the country in every season. In summer, there's a wealth of dance, music and theatre festivals; autumn is the time for art and culture, and the Christmas markets bring warmth to cold winter months. The largest national event is celebrated every year on 14 July: Quatorze Juillet.  Here, you'll find an overview of the annual events that are celebrated during the month of your visit.

22 July

Millau / Carcassonne
Étape 15 - 181 km - Accidentée

With a dominant view over the Montagne Noire, the Pic de Nore which will appear for the first time on the map of the Tour, offers a spectacular panorama over the “départements” of Aude and Tarn. It’ll be the highest place (1,205m) of a stage again made for breakaway riders or for green jersey candidates who can play their part in the mountains.

23 July

Repos 2
The recent starts in Carcassonne have honoured offensive riders ready to battle it out whatever their pedigree. In 2014, it was while heading to Bagnères-de-Luchon that Michael Rogers found a place among a large breakaway group that he eventually dominated in the final part of the stage to go and capture his only victory on the Tour. Two years later, the voyage from Carcassonne to Montpellier ended with an outstanding final in the wind involving Chris Froome and Peter Sagan. The Slovakian had the last word...

24 July

Carcassonne / Bagnères-de-Luchon
Étape 16 - 218 km - Montagne

Following a rest day, this long stage should inspire good climbers who might have lost all hopes in the general classification. Positioned at the end of the stage, the Col du Portillon could prove to be decisive both on its climb as well as on its descent towards Bagnères-de-Luchon.

14 July - from 22h30

Every 14th of July at 22.30 Over 700,000 visitors crowd together on the banks of the Aude to watch this incredible fireworks display. For over 25 minutes starting at 22.30 you can watch colourful pyrotechnics in blue, white, yellow, green, red and gold with a final spectacular bouquet of over 1200 bursts of fire in 6 seconds over a frontage of 600 metres. On 14th August 1898, the « Cadets de Gascogne » entered Carcassonne. This delegation was made up of literary, artistic and political personalities. On this occasion, the city of Carcassonne organised a grand feast in honour of these prestigious visitors. To conclude the festivities, they used Bengal lights to simulate a fire and transform the Cité into an enormous shimmering stone. It was such a success that they decided to keep this tradition of fire going, and to do the same thing again every year on 14th July at 22h30.
