Le massif de la Clape

La Clape

La Clape A.O.P.

The La Clape AOP is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

Abbaye de Fontfroide

Abbaye de Fontfroide - Narbonne

Immerse yourself for a day in the silent universe of the Cistercian Monks, who had only the cicadas’ song to distract them from contemplation. Standing in front of its high walls, it’s hard to imagine just how vast the Abbey is. Once you have passed the gate, the splendour of the ochre sandstone building will be revealed. It is one of the most beautiful Cistercian abbeys of France, founded in 1093 and saved from ruin in 1908 by art patrons Gustave and Madeleine Fayet. While discovering the dormitory and refectory, you will plunge into history and learn about the particularities of the Cistercian Order. You will find out, for instance, that the professed monks never met the conversi, or lay brothers, who were manual workers...

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés...

Maison Natale de Charles Trenet

Maison natale de Charles Trenet - Narbonne

Charles Trenet was a successful poet and songwriter who called Narbonne home. He was born in this house and grew up there, and in fact his mother continued to live there for almost all of her life. At the beginning of the 21st Century the beautiful property was converted into a small museum where visitors could see the interior of the house and some of the family treasures. It also contains many of Trenet’s original compositions in a fascinating exhibition...

Campsite
Les Floralys

Campsite Les Floralys - Narbonne

The campsite is located alongside the Canal de la Robine with direct access to the towpath. This peaceful site features 30 shaded and well marked out pitches in a countryside setting, with access to hot water. From 15/06 onwards you can relax by the site pool. Situated 10 kms from beach. The centre of Narbonne is quite small. In fact there are only really a few streets either side of the Canal du Robine that bisects the centre, that are worthy of a visit. Perhaps the best time to catch Narbonne is on a Sunday morning when the whole of the town is taken over with a huge market (see Narbonne Market for more details). The grassy banks of the Canal du Robine provide a pleasant splash of green and colourful flowers...
