Elevage des biches de Picarel - Saissac

In the heart of the Montagne Noire Audoise, a 45 hectare property, with 80 deer, hinds, fawns and daggers.

The breeding, on meadows, is done in full open air, and the animals have for the summer and the winter of natural shelters, such hedges, thickets, copses, ravines, ...

If you come to visit the farm, you will see different herds grazing quietly in large grassy plots, or ruminating peacefully away from the wind.

Catherine SOUEF set up this farm in 1986, with 50 hinds and two deer from Scotland.

Specialities

For almost 30 years, the company has evolved well: there were unexpected sales at the time of the mad cow, and the herd rose to 350 heads, to satisfy the demand, with sales to wholesalers, butchers, restaurateurs, and still direct sales to individuals. There was the creation of the farmhouse in 1998, where Catherine worked in the kitchen for 8 years.
Elevage des biches de Picarel - Saissac
She now "only" takes care of 50 breeders and 2 deer, selling meat directly to individuals on the farm, as well as by-products. The tours, guided or free, are now over; Catherine refocuses on breeding. And thoroughbred Arabian horses now share the pastures of hinds: mares, foals and even stallion...

Revel

Revel

Surrounded by sunflowers and poppies. The town of Revel, which is in the east of the Haute-Garonne department of south-west France, is a market town lying on a flat plain, resplendent in early summer with sunflowers and poppies. Corn and garlic are also grown here, agriculture being a dictator of the changing seasonal landscapes as always in rural France. A market town par excellence! Its Saturday extravaganza truly is a superb example of a French general market at its very best. Revel has a huge Saturday morning market which is attended by both locals and visitors, some of whom have travelled considerable distances to savour the atmosphere and the goods on offer here. The hub of the market, the food and fresh produce stalls, are situated in the central market square, which is a gorgeous covered arcade, typical in its bastide styling, yet more beautiful than most. The market spreads out around the town, but the heart is most definitely here in this very traditional square...

Randonnée La Prise d'Alzeau et La Rigole de la Montagne Noire - Lacombe

The Prise d' Alzeau and the Mountain Canal in the very heart of the Montagne Noire, «the source of the Canal du Midi» provides an important supply of water. It wasn’t until the 17th century, when Pierre Paul Riquet identified and harnessed the power of the small mountain streams so that collectively they could be used to generate a supply of water to the Canal du Midi. Thus Pierre Paul Riquet completed his greatest work, taking water from its source here in the Montagne Noire for the Canal du Midi in order to finally link the Atlantic and The Mediterranean Sea. The Galaube dam is part of the water management system of the Montagne Noire near Carcassone in Southern France. Reservoirs at the Saint Ferréol, Lampy and Cammazes dams already hold more than 35 million cubic metres of water for use as drinking water, irrigation in the three departments of Aude, Haute-Garonne and Tarn as well as regulating water levels in the Canal du Midi...
