The vineyard of Château Rouquette sur Mer is located in an amphitheater on the cliffs of the "Massif de la Clape", the former island on the coast of Languedoc during the Roman period.

The family estate for four generations, is now passionately led by Jacques Boscary, who inherited the estate of his grandfather Henry Lapierre - he maintains the management and development of the area with his wife Dominique and his sons François and Arnaud.
Château Rouquette-sur-Mer - Narbonne-Plage
Château Rouquette sur mer (it is that close to the sea) is owned and run by Jacques Boscary, his wife Dominique and sons François and Arnaud; and has now fairly effortlessly earned a place among my favourite wine estates in/on the happening Languedoc subzone of La Clape (click on the red highlighted link at the bottom of this post for more info/views and recommended wines/wineries, or cruise the 'A to Z' on the right). The Boscary's breathtakingly untamed wine-lands come to about 50 hectares (120 acres) of vines (plus a lot more of trees, bushes, shrubs, wild flowers etc.) lying in a rather lovely spot near Narbonne-Plage...

Château Rouquette Sur Mer has been family-owned for four generations, and is currently headed by Jacques Boscary, along with his wife Dominique, and his sons François and Arnaud.

The property is located at La Clape – a coastal sub-zone of the Languedoc region that gets its name from the Occitan term clapas, meaning ‘pile of stone’. It really is as close to the sea as its château name suggests: the Boscarys’ 50ha of stunning, untamed vineyards, interspersed with trees and wild flowers, are on the cliffs of the striking Massif de la Clape, facing south out towards the sea.

The resulting cool, maritime summer breezes help the grapes to ripen at a slow and steady pace. The family plants a number of varieties, all of which are ideally suited to the Languedoc climate and terroir; they include syrah, mourvèdre, grenache, and carignan for the reds, and bourboulenc and roussanne for the whites. The soils are equally varied to match, ranging from clay and limestone to marl and brown crushed limestone.

The château works hard to preserve its breathtaking natural surroundings, limiting the use of pesticides and opting for gentler alternatives where possible, such as using animal manure and harvesting all of the grapes by hand.

In the cellar, the family has kept up-to-date with modern technology, making use of temperature-controlled facilities, a pneumatic press and air-conditioned cellars.

La Clape

La Clape

The La Clape AOC is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

Small loop around the Pech Redon but it is only a variant which allows to discover the joys of "bartassage" for those who do not know. Then the tour continues quietly with a beautiful view if the sun is to the game. It leads us to the Vigie-round fire monitoring. After borrowing a path of vineyards and made a little road, the meal period may be close to the viewpoint which offers a beautiful view of Narbonne and its Cathedral .. A little further away, downhill near pines before finding the paths that will allow us to see the Virgin of Cruques and end up on the shelf in the scrubland of Clape where one could see, on February 27, a wild iris multitude of all colors. This is a very beautiful hike by the in the specified direction because we have a beautiful view through the circuit and it also can not cross private property Happy trails...
