Built in the 18th century in the pretty village of La redorte, the Château de La Redorte invites its guests to relax within the elegant setting of a French château. A stone’s throw from the beautiful Canal du Midi and 30km from Carcassonne town, the property has been entirely renovated, both to restore its character and faded glamour, and to adapt it to long and short visits by guests.
Château de la Redorte - La Redorte
In the chateau’s unique and mysterious ‘Wine Tunnel’ (opening late June, 2016), which connects it to its own vineyards, you’ll find a chic wine bar serving the best vintages from the surrounding ‘Minervois’ wine region and beyond. And for those of you looking to truly relax, laze the day away by the pool surrounded by pine and olive trees, or take in a luxurious treatment at our ‘Vineyard Spa’. Venture out of the elegant parlours and gardens of the chateau, and explore the pretty village of La Redorte. Then take off for a day by the Med or exploring the nearby castle at Carcassonne.

A superb wine list of the best of the surrounding Minervois wine region accompanies the cuisine served - to be enjoyed in the chateau’s elegant dining room.

Our suites are completely renovated and faithfully restored, our 25 suites offer families superior standards of comfort and modern amenities - while preserving the refinement and elegance of a time gone by. Some offer a terrace, garden or even their own private pool. All come with a fully-equipped kitchen, and views over gardens or the estate’s pool.

Step outside your suite, into the sumptuous estate in which the château sits, with its hundred-year-old olive trees, vineyard and lavender.

Once the head of a renown vineyard, the Château de La Redorte invites you into the unique world of wine making. A ‘wine tunnel’ (opening late June, 2016) connecting the property to the estate's vines now plays host to a charming wine-tasting cellar-bar, brimming with delicious wines from top local wine makers.

Minervois

A.O.C. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Minerve

Minerve

Minerve has been selected as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (‘The Most Beautiful Villages Of France’). Historically, the village has been the capital of the Minervois wine region. The main bridge leading into the village is closed to all passenger vehicles not owned by residents of Minerve. Of all of the original fortifications, only a slender octagonal tower, known locally as the Candela, survives. The village is situated on top of the gorge of the River Cesse in a naturally strong defensive position. Near the village the river disappears underground in large, naturally-carved tunnels....

Le Musée du Château de Ventenac - Ventenac-en-Minervois

A place, a history, a passion ... Cross the aisle vault, lined tanks of old Verrees, enter the heart of our cave and visit the museum. Follow the marked route and discover the old tools, cooperage, carriages and wagons old. The Castle of Ventenac was erected in the eighteenth century on the foundations of an ancient castle. The name of Ventenac is its etymology in Roman times: Villa Ventenachus. Castrum Venthenacum was taken in the twelfth century by Simon de Montfort at the time of the Cathars. This is the nineteenth century that Ms. Seguy Saint Siran built the castle in its present form, giving it its prestigious appearance reminiscent of a religious building. At his death, the vineyard, the cellar and the castle became the property of Pauline Meyer. It is in 1938 that deal with the threat of war, the Meyer family left France....

Notre Dame
du Cros

Notre Dame du Cros - Caunes-Minervois

Situated 2km from Caunes, Notre Dame du Cros is a remarkable site with a chapel dedicated to the worship of the Virgin Mary. Following a miraculous cure by the spring water, three small dry stone chapels were built on a steep slope with three statues, the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and Saint John. This is the origin of the pilgrimage of the Cros. A larger chapel had to be built as the number of devotees grew. Pilgrimages and processions were regularly organised to coincide with the feasts of the Assumption and the Nativity and the relics of the Caunes martyrs were associated with processions asking for rain, for the protection of the harvest etc. Religious rituals were also observed during Easter week. A few pilgrimages and celebrations have survived to the present day, specifically on 15 August and 8 September. Inside the church, the chancel is lavishly decorated with paintings framed with marble and gilded wood and the beautiful communion table, pulpit and font are all made of marble...
