  Specialties

Jacques Maymil (1920), a contractor from Narbonne and passionate about viticulture, bought some vineyards in the 1950’s around Ferrals, the place from where his mother came. Upon harvesting the grapes, he took them to the village’s cooperative winery, In 1975, his son, Jean Maymil (1947), decided, with his wife Anne-Marie, to put a lot into the family’s wine estate which counted 30 hectares of vineyards. In 1987, only two years after the establishment of AOC Corbières by the INAO, Jean Maymil decided to create his own winery in order to sell his production on his own brand: “Château Maylandie”. The name Maylandie is derived from the union of the names of Maymil and Landrodie, his wife’s maiden name. At the same time, he pulled up wide-yield grape varieties and planted grape varieties such as Grenahe Noir on a sunny hillside. Since 1999 he has engaged himself in "Ecological Agriculture» under the labels “Agriculture Raisonnée” and VITEALYS, in order to express its respect for the environment and consumer. He belongs to “Vignerons Indépendants” association. Now, after communication and marketing studies, Delphine Maymil (1975), the daughter, works beside her parents Jean and Anne-Marie, while waiting to take over the management of the estate

The appellation CORBIERES is the biggest wine area of Languedoc and it is split into 9 terroirs. It’s principally on the terroir of Boutenac, which is renowned for producing very good wines thanks to the terroir (pebbly-chalky-clayey soil and Mediterranean climate), that are planted the 20 hectares of Château Maylandie’s vines. Château Maylandie has the particularity to have more Grenache Noir than Carignan as it is used to be in the Corbières. Besides these two grape varieties, Château Maylandie also has Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc, giving exquisite aromas of red or white fruits and spices.

Corbières

A.O.P. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Rivière de
St Laurent
de la Cabrerisse

Rivière de St Laurent de la Cabrerisse

Amidst a magnificent landscape of vineyards, pine forests, olive trees and garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland), our village stretches along the river Nielle. Ideally located between Carcassonne and its famous fortified cité and Narbonne with both a remarkable cathedral and relaxing beaches to offer, our village deserves its double “label” of “Gate of the Hautes Corbieres” as well as “ Heart of the Corbieres-Minervois country”. You are only a few minutes away from Lagrasse, which abbey and middle-age cobbled streets have earned it a place on the list of France’s most beautiful villages. And there is plenty more to see : the abbeys of Fontfroide and Caunes Minervois are well worth a visit, not to forget the Cathar history of the region with the castles of Termes, Villerouge Termenes, Aquilair, Minerves and many more “vertigo citadels” all within a short drive of the village. The Canal du Midi and the Cité of Carcassonne are both inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List. They offer beautiful opportunities for a half-day or daytrip in the sun....
