Our domaine is situated on the north end of the Appellation "Corbières" , in the Aude county, 5 km from Lézignan-Corbières ( 200 Ha With 70 Ha in the "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Corbières" area and 30 Ha in the "Vin de Pays d'Hauterive" area.

The soil is rich with limestone -slate terraces from the quaternary period with large gravel from alluvial origin .

For 10 years our objective was to re-plant with qualitative grape varietals adapted to grow in plots. We favoured dense elevated plantations : from 4500 to 5500 grapevines per hectare upright on stakes or "trellis training" allowing an excellent sun exposure to foliage and grapes to attain ideal ripeness.

Because we are concerned with the quality of our grapes and the respect for the environment, we have , and this for the past 6 years, subscribed to a reasonable culture favouring the soil with manure , cultivating and working the land. Phytosanitary treatments are applied according to its disease in its set climate.

  Specialties

Nestled in a green setting surrounded by maritime essences , this impressive chateau which had already been mentioned in topographical layouts of 1770 and refurbished several times, offers a unique character . The owners, Anne-Marie et Guilhem Durand, bought the property in 1989.

They have particularly attached importance to the development of quality wines and the improvement of the vineyards by uprooting ordinary ones and replacing them with prestigious varieties. Now, today, this policy proves to be fruitful: "Chateau la Bastide" is ranked among the best in numerous international tastings such as in the U.S.A., Canada, England , Benelux, Germany and other countries where 96% of the production is exported .

As the name of the estate indicates , there is a superb bastide or country house located on the domaine which in the near future will offer possibilities of accommodation.

A highly motivated staff works together with the same object in view: To make top quality wines.

Corbières

A.O.P. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....
