Château de Cointes - Roullens

The first owners of the castle, Andrew and John Cointes, consuls of Carcassonne in 1646, gave their name to the domain and the locally produced wines: Château de Cointes (Côtes de la Malepère) - Domaine des Consuls (Vin du Pays des Cotes de Prouilhes).

It was in 1987 that Francis and Anne Gorostis settled on the family estate. Their close family relationship and their passion for good wines has made them decide to resume the exploitation of Paul and Clémence, the grandparents of Francois. Anne and Francois now manage the vineyard.

In 1923, when the grandfather of Francois bought Chateau de Cointes, the production of the domaine was fueled by the trade. Gradually the Mediterranean and Bordeaux grape varieties were introduced. Anne and François Gorostis have constantly endeavored to enhance the expansion of re-planting with investments in the vinification method and preservation techniques. Half of the production is sold to wine merchants and the other half is exported to Northern Europe and Asia.

Since 1995, the wines of Château Cointes are regularly rewarded at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris.

Present on most professional exhibits, Anne and François Gorostis present to share with you their love for their country and wine.

  La Malepère

This is the terroir of the Languedoc-Roussillon region that stretches from the gates of Carcassonne to the cornfields of la Piège and du Razes and enjoying the softness of the ocean in a Mediterranean environment.

MALA PERA cracked by the sun, parched by the wind, with its curved men clinging to the slopes to do their job, Malepère that's we love and to share this with you! This is the youngest appellation in Languedoc-Roussillon.

Le Massif de Malepère located in a triangular area, with the ends Carcassonne, Limoux and Castelnaudary. The wines of La Malepère benefit from the designation of origin since 1983 and can be found in the Classement of the AOC's. The reference includes 31 municipalities that produce about 30,000 hectoliters.

Le Château de Cointes, located in the northeastern part of this massif is subject to both oceanic and Mediterranean climatic influences.

The south-facing slopes with gravel soil in the upper part, gradually changing into a clay and limestone soil lower. The combination of a young vintage "Côtes de Malepère" based on geological, climatic and balanced ampéléologiques, and the old family love for the vineyard and wine making a homogeneous and efficient production unit arise...

Malepère

A.O.P. Malepère - Côtes de la Malepère

The Malepère region was awarded AOC status on May 2nd 2007. It is a hilly area south-west of the city of Carcassonne which is included in the appellation along with 31 other towns and villages. Although the area claims a great history of wine making it was in the 1970’s that the vineyards began to be replanted and VDQS status was granted. VDQS is the intermediary wine designation between Vin de Pays and AOC and is a testing ground for would-be AOC’s to prove that wines from all the producers share a common personality before they can be awarded full AOC status. Although an obscure region the Malepère is well worth a visit and offers a very different terrain to the more recognizable Languedoc appellations. There are many interesting medieval circular villages to visit. They were built this way to form ramparts to act as protection for the inhabitants. The Cathar religion was strong here and the area is immersed in history and folklore...
