The CHATEAU CHALABRE, in the heart of Cathar country, takes visitors of all ages on an historical, interactive adventure.
With its 2,500 m2 of restored grounds, in a 25-hectare estate, the Château Chalabre attracts a wide range of visitors.
Château Chalabre
Here, you can learn the history of the place in a fun way, taking part in ancient games, combat demonstrations in the armoury, shows featuring knights on horseback.

A variety of skills are demonstrated in the château's interactive workshops: calligraphy, archery, medieval dancing, heraldry, blacksmithing...
The first mention of the Château Chalabre dates from the 10th century.

Formerly the capital of the Quercob, the name of this charming old fortified town subsequently features in various documents as a possession of the first Count of Carcassonne, Roger the Elder.

A number of battles took place around Chalabre during the Albigensian crusade in the 13th century.
Mairie de Chalabre
Chalabre was later the home town of Captain Danjou, a war hero of the French Foreign Legion killed in the battle of Camerón in Mexico.
