Carcassonne has often been called "la ville aux deux cités", the city of two cities! Indeed, the city consists of two main parts. These two parts have lived side by side for eight centuries: the upper and fortified city, la Cité the lower town, la Bastide Saint Louis.
The Cité of Carcassonne is best known as a medieval fortified city.
In the second half of the 19th century, Carcassonne was thoroughly restored under the leadership of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and the city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Cité is still inhabited. The 3 km long fortress walls have a total of 52 towers and 2 concentric walls. The visitor has free access to a large part of the Cité (except to the Château). One can visit the basilica Saint Nazaire, the "lices", the city walls, the Porte Narbonnaise and the Porte d'Aude and taste the atmosphere of the Cité

2500 years of history !! The imposing fortifications of the citadel of Carcassonne occupy a rocky outcrop overlooking the course of the River Aude. At the foot of their walls stretches the lower town, a bastide founded in 1248 by Louis IX. Carcassonne has been a settlement since the 6th century BC and was a Roman town, fortified during the later imperial period, before becoming a medieval citadel. It has examples of 1,000 years of military architecture and 2,600 years of history. A rich and varied tour is available and includes many areas not otherwise visited: ramparts, hoardings, projection room, lapidary museum. Guided tours, lectures or audio-guides available, subject to booking...

At the end of a well-maintained cul-de-sac you will find the Clos des Framboisiers in a building from 1790, but you will not hesitate to return there as this place will leave excellent memories for you. On the dining side, Patricia is never tired of changing the furniture and offering different atmospheres with the decoration and it is fun to discover one of our favorite restaurant spaces in different shapes at any time of the year as the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming! In the kitchen, Luc and his son always offer new dishes and the layout of the plates will make you shine, the dishes are presented as works of art and the mix of flavors illustrates the creativity of the chef. Cooking is controlled, the good taste of the fresh products is preserved...

A very pleasant place to enjoy a delicious Italian pizza, while dining with a world champion! Yes, master pizza maker Rabah Zaoui boasts several titles in France and Italy. He will welcome you with a big smile and a lot of kindness (don't forget to book your table). The chef offers you a choice of pizzas, from classic to the most original, including Terroir, Excellence or the unique Occitan cassoulet pizzas, but let yourself be tempted. We recommend the Excellence pizza with fresh cream, processed cheese, fig jam, foie gras, soft figs, greens, cherry tomatoes, ground hazelnuts, cow's mozzarella and balsamic cream ... You can also choose pasta, which has the same quality and tastes the same as the pizza's. You will appreciate the freshness of the products, which are cut at the last minute, the diversity of the menu and the quality of the pizza dough. And for real enthusiasts, sign up for one of the internships at his pizza school...

Coming from Carcassonne, Gérard Baux and his wife Josiane created in 1970 the "Café de la Comédie", located opposite the Municipal Theater of the city. With their success, they opened a pizzeria restaurant, "La Divine Comédie", inaugurated on 21 December 1985. This pizzeria restaurant with terrace is located in La Bastide (the lower city as opposed to La Cité) on one of the boulevards where can be easily parked. The restaurant's name, title of a work composed in the fourteenth century by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, is a wink to the first Café. It was in 2016 that Gerard and Josiane Baux wished to entrust their property to their youngest son, Xavier, order to perpetuate the know-how and identity: a decidedly festive and family atmosphere, a simple and friendly welcome, service friendly and efficient, a decor that is both elegant and dynamic. Here dressed in a dining room of "mirrors" Venetian, one calls table à table, talking with hands, sometimes eaten with the fingers. Everything is subject to joke, to converse. As the hero of "The Divine Comedy", the guest is invited to a heavenly moment, at least the restaurant team will do everything to make it so! Divine, as regulars call it. Xavier invites you to discover the restaurant menu...

Restaurant Au Jardin de la Tour welcomes you in Carcassonne in the Aude department (11), in the heart of the medieval city, la Cité. It is in a warm, family atmosphere where the whole restaurant team welcomes you and where you can taste French cuisine based on fresh produce and regional specialties.
Group receptions are possible on request, child seats or high chairs are available and we accept pets. In the summer, our terrace is opened to enjoy a professional meal with family or friends.
In an elegant setting that combines tasteful furniture and trinkets discovered here and there by the hostess, Elodie, you will enjoy a cuisine that is both modern and that keeps with local traditions. The chef, Bernard, adds the fine touches of the Mediterranean to his dishes.
A menu that changes with the seasons or just with the day's feeling...
In summer, enjoy the tapas served on the terrace under the wonderful contemporary tent; unless you prefer to sit in the beautiful shaded garden alongside the fortifications...
