Bureau des guides et accompagnateurs des Pyrénées Audoises

Bureau des guides et accompagnateurs des Pyrénées audoises - Quillan

What is a mountain guide (AEM)? In the mountain world they are called "smugglers". Intermediates between the curious city dweller and the wild mountains. He acts as a bridge between two worlds, a role that consists of explaining the mountain environment to his customers. For an AEM, the journey to a summit is just as important as the climb. An AEM is mainly a state certificate (1st degree mountaineering), validated in 3 years, the only one that gives access to paid mountain surveillance. A long and rigorous training in the field, in particular supervised by the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne and other specialists in orientation, geology, fauna, flora, etc ... have trained the candidate to be very versatile. Thanks to its in-depth knowledge of the terrain, the AEM will relieve you not only of choosing the best route based on multiple parameters (weather, altitude, curiosities), but also of finding the right path at the right intersection without having to having to fight with maps and GPS. Many have already seen marmots, few can explain their social and biological organization, it is the same with medieval mountain castles, as well as with the beautiful orchid that we meet in the meadow. In short, leaving with an AEM is the guarantee to share emotions, passions and knowledge. See you soon...

Ax-les-Thermes

Ax-les-Thermes

Twenty kilometres southeast of Tarascon, and still on the river, the spa town of AX-LES-THERMES is completely walled in by mountains and its principal value is as a base for exploring the surrounding peaks and as a staging post on the way to Andorra or on down the N20 to Font-Romeu and, ultimately, Perpignan and the Mediterranean. The town itself is small and agreeable enough, but there's little to see once you've wandered a couple of streets in the quarter to the right of the N20, which forms the main street, avenue Delcassé. Rue de l'École and rue de la Boucarie retain a few medieval buildings, and above place du Breilh, the church of St-Vincent is of architectural interest for its Romanesque tower. Just across the road you can dangle your feet for free in the Bassin des Ladres, a pool of hot sulphurous water which is all that remains of the hospital founded in 1260 by St Louis for soldiers wounded in the Crusades...

Château
de Quérigut

Château de Quérigut

Château de Quérigut is located on a rocky outcrop in the village center Quérigut (Ariege).Castle Quérigut is mentioned in a text dating from 1208. The fifteenth century until the late seventeenth century, it was repeatedly besieged by the Spaniards. An attempt to take the castle fails in 1495. In 1589, the attackers managed to burn. In 1607, Louis XIII establishes a garrison there. It will be deleted by a judgment of the State Council of 25 April 1638. The castle was burned again in 1676. In 1709, Louis XIV ordered the restoration of the castle and established a garrison again. It remains today a massive castle tower in ruins, which was the old dungeon...

Rafting
Appeared in France in the 80s, Rafting is an outdoor activity which consists of going down a hectic river, punctuated by rapids, in a pneumatic boat called raft. In order to outwit the whitewater traps, you will be equipped with a paddle, helmet, suit and vest. Unlike its whitewater cousins such as canoeing or kayaking, rafting is accessible to anyone who has never practiced this activity. It offers maximum pleasure and security. Taking the right passages will become a breeze when you understand that rafting is a team sport! Each raft can contain 4 to 8 team members and 1 guide otherwise called "the coxswain".

Randonnée
Le Chateau
de Puilaurens

Randonnée Le Chateau de Puilaurens

This castle is located at an altitude of almost 700 metres and overlooks the village of Lapradelle, in the midst of a pine forest. The first records of the castle date from 958. Since it played a major part in defending the former frontier between France and the kingdom of Aragon, it can boast the full range of medieval military architecture. Access is via a pathway with chicanes preceded by a barbican. The Château de Puilaurens (Occitan: lo Castèl de Puèg-Laurenç) is one of the Cathar Castles of the Languedoc in what is now the South of France. It is located in the commune of Lapradelle-Puilaurens in the Aude département. The castle here had belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa before it was acquired by the King of Aragon in 1162. As Aragonese property it was outside the territory ravaged by the Crusaders during the Cathar wars. Like Queribus it therefore provided a refuge for those fleeing from the invading forces. Those who took refuge there included both Cathars and faidits, that is to say those who had forfeited their property because of their opposition to the invaders. These faidits included high nobles, such as Guillaume de Peyrepertuse...

Château
de Puilaurens

Château de Puilaurens - Lapradelle-Puilaurens

The castle of Puilaurens (also written Puylaurens) is mentioned for the first time early in the XIIIth century. It was a shelter for cathar people from 1241 to 1246. The date of its surrender to the royal troops is not known precisely, probably around 1250. As several other castles around, it was integrated by the King Saint Louis in the defensive plan of the border with the Aragon Kingdom. After the treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659, that has fixed definitively the border, the castle was downgraded and have been occupied by only a little garrison. This castle is located at an altitude of almost 700 metres and overlooks the village of Lapradelle, in the midst of a pine forest.  Access is via a pathway with chicanes preceded by a barbican...
