Campsite Les Sapins - Camurac

Dutch owners, Lia and Jos, wish you a warm welcome in the French Pyrenees. Campsite les Sapins is situated on Pays de Sault. The view from here across the valley to the villages of Camurac, Comus and Montaillou is magnificent. At the southern end of the valley, between the hills, the high peaks of the Pyrenees are visible. Some of these are covered with snow all year round. Nature here is spectacular and unspoiled, and – thanks to the many "sapins" (fir trees) – the air is exceptionally pure. Craggy limestone formations dominate the broad upland landscape with its many caves and ravines. They include the spectacular Gorges de la Frau, which lead to Montségur. A stone's throw away from Les Sapins, was the last bastion of the mysterious Cathars whose fascinating history and culture dominate the region.
Campsite Les Sapins - Camurac
With its superb location and great views, Campsite Les Sapins makes an ideal base for discovering the area's rugged beauty and interesting culture. Tranquillity, space, nature and culture are our watchwords. Campsite Les Sapins has everything you need for a relaxed stay. The campsite has 72 spacious pitches where you can stay with your tent, caravan or camper van, but you can also choose between fully equiped tents, mobile homes or chalets
...
Campsite Les Sapins consists of an open area surrounded by trees and hedges with, from many pitches, beautiful views of villages and mountains. On the campsite there are Campsite spots on an “open field”, but also under the trees (for more shade) and between hedges (for more privacy). The spot size varies from 80-100 m2.

The campsite has a small restaurant adjacent to a pleasant garden with various seating areas. You can sit here, read a book or have something to eat. Games and reading books are available for the children. There is a small “library” where you can borrow or exchange books. Wifi point at the reception is free to use.
Campsite Les Sapins - Camurac
In the French Pyrenees, on the Plateau de Sault, Campsite Les Sapins is located at an altitude of 1280 meters. The view of the valley with the villages of Camurac, Comus and Montaillou is magnificent. In the south of the valley you can see the high peaks of the Pyrenees between the hills. Some are covered with eternal snow. Nature is spectacular and unspoiled and the air is unusually pure, partly due to the many sapins (pines).

Wide highlands with many caves and ravines and jagged limestone formations dominate the area. Such as the spectacular Gorges de la Frau which, a stone's throw from Campsite Les Sapins, lead to Montségur, the last bastion of the mysterious Cathars, whose rugged history dominates the culture in this area

Montaillou

Montaillou

Montaillou is a small village in the remote Sabarthès area where Catharism was revived in the fouteenth century. In 1318 the whole village was arrested on the orders of the bishop of Pamiers, Jacques Fournier, who had been the Cistercian Abbot of Fontfroide and who now felt a vocation as an Inquisitor. Exceptionally, he was interested in the truth about Catharism, and he kept records of the interrogations. Even more exceptionally, years later he was elected Pope (Benedict XII) so his records were preserved in the Vatican archives. These records form the basis of a book about the village by Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie.  The centuries-old church of the Notre Dame of Carnesses, an intimate, warm spot, is idyllically located in the open landscape. The names on the graves at the churchyard show that the people are apparently all descendants of the Cathars. The fontcanal, the most important spring of medieval Montaillou, still works. Today there is almost nothing left of the medieval village, except for the foundations and a few walls. You get the best view of modern Montaillou from the fontcanal that lies very close to the ruins...

Ax-les-Thermes

Ax-les-Thermes

Twenty kilometres southeast of Tarascon, and still on the river, the spa town of AX-LES-THERMES is completely walled in by mountains and its principal value is as a base for exploring the surrounding peaks and as a staging post on the way to Andorra or on down the N20 to Font-Romeu and, ultimately, Perpignan and the Mediterranean. The town itself is small and agreeable enough, but there's little to see once you've wandered a couple of streets in the quarter to the right of the N20, which forms the main street, avenue Delcassé. Rue de l'École and rue de la Boucarie retain a few medieval buildings, and above place du Breilh, the church of St-Vincent is of architectural interest for its Romanesque tower. Just across the road you can dangle your feet for free in the Bassin des Ladres, a pool of hot sulphurous water which is all that remains of the hospital founded in 1260 by St Louis for soldiers wounded in the Crusades...

Bureau des guides et accompagnateurs des Pyrénées Audoises

Bureau des guides et accompagnateurs des Pyrénées audoises - Quillan

What is a mountain guide (AEM)? In the mountain world they are called "smugglers". Intermediates between the curious city dweller and the wild mountains. He acts as a bridge between two worlds, a role that consists of explaining the mountain environment to his customers. For an AEM, the journey to a summit is just as important as the climb. An AEM is mainly a state certificate (1st degree mountaineering), validated in 3 years, the only one that gives access to paid mountain surveillance. A long and rigorous training in the field, in particular supervised by the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne and other specialists in orientation, geology, fauna, flora, etc ... have trained the candidate to be very versatile. Thanks to its in-depth knowledge of the terrain, the AEM will relieve you not only of choosing the best route based on multiple parameters (weather, altitude, curiosities), but also of finding the right path at the right intersection without having to having to fight with maps and GPS. Many have already seen marmots, few can explain their social and biological organization, it is the same with medieval mountain castles, as well as with the beautiful orchid that we meet in the meadow. In short, leaving with an AEM is the guarantee to share emotions, passions and knowledge. See you soon...
