A naturist site hidden in the hills of the Minervois, only 3 km. from the medieval town of Minerve. Created in 1997 by Jeanne and Gilles, the the naturist centre has been built around a former Provençal farmhouse of the 18th Cent which nestles between the vines and the garrigues on the south-facing slope of the coteaux du Minervois. This former sheep farm still bears the name of the family who constructed it in the middle of the magical countryside whose savage beauty has filled so many people with wonder as much by its flora as by its fauna...

Geographically situated at nearly equal distances from Carcassonne in the West, from Beziers to the East, from Narbonne and the Mediterrenean to the South and the Parc Regionaldu Haut Languedoc to the North, The Minervois, the region Cathare is brim full of history. Its historical capital, Minerve, squatting on the promontory between the Gorges de la Cesse and those of the Brian since its siege in 1210 by the troops of Simon de Montfort, is one of the widely known places of `catharisme`. At Homps the Canal du Midi, listed in the world`heritage, flows to the South towards Narbonne and its beaches...
Situated at an altitude of 280 metres, the Mas de Lignières is a haven of peace, far from the noise of the town.

A friendly and family-like ambience and the reduced number of camping pitches ensures the quality of your holiday. The close proximity of the Mediterranean blesses it with a very gentle climate.
Campsite Le Mas de Lignières - Espace Naturiste - Cesseras en Minervois
The site now has just 26 very large pitches (electricity 6/10A), and 5 caravan holiday homes. Mainly on level grass, they are separated by mature hedges which give considerable privacy.

Some smaller pitches are available for tents, with cars parked elsewhere. There is natural shade and a variety of flora and fauna including four types of orchid.

The natural bridge of Minerve

The natural bridge of Minerve

Minerve has been selected as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages
de France ('The Most Beautiful Villages Of France').

A.O.P. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Randonnée Minerve,
La Cesse et le Brian
Randonnée Minerve, La Cesse et le Brian
Everything is there in this walk around Minerve! The natural bridges of the Cesse, les garrigues, the aerial passages of the Gorges du Brian and of course the cobbled streets of Minerve. Parking is available on the causse above the village or at the Minerve bridge. (D/A) Leave the car park on the west side and follow the D147E.
(1) Follow the D147E on the left, ignore the first road on the right and join the second starting point on the right. Enjoy the view of the natural bridges of the Gorges de la Cesse.
(2) Take the path on the right. Walk past the first field of vines to the right and come to the corner of the second. Go down left at the path in the maquis. Cross the small ford (often dry) and climb towards the pines. After the Mazet, turn right and go up the vine. Turn right at the top and go straight on along the large path. It crosses the Ruisseau de la Loubatière (troglodyte shelters) and joins a crossing...

La Curiosité de L'Auriol (Lauriole)

La Curiosité de L'Auriol (Lauriole)

The Curiosité de Lauriole is not a place where you can find something to buy or other interesting things, no it's really an insignificant piece of road with only an optical illusion. When we were there for the first time we looked everywhere for something special but did not find anything. After a little search on google we found an interpretation of this phenomenon. What you have to do to find the cache is just to find out the secret of the Curiosité de Lauriole. You can put your car at one of this coordinates and just set your gear in the free and leave the breaks... because of the optical illusion you will think the car goes that direction but it's not!!!

Musée Hurepel
de Minerve

Musée Hurepel de Minerve - Minerve

Using dioramas (original figurines presented in various scenes), the museum tells the story of the tragic saga of the Occitan Cathars. In the 13th century, the catholic princes, spurred on by Pope Innocent III, decided to put an end to Cathar influence in the provinces of Languedoc, Simon de Montfort came to impose the law and the catholic faith in Languedoc by force and fire. The local barons and knights then took up arms to defend their land, their faith and their culture. Following many years of combat, they lost their independence and were forced, in humiliation, to witness the martyrdom of the Cathars under their protection, who were burnt at the stake on enormous pyres...

La Caunette

La Caunette

Since the days of prehistory, La Caunette, has provided shelter, and a place called home. In the beginning, men and women found protection in caves in the cliffs that surround the village. Closeby at La Garrigue there are remains of a Dolmen, not marked on the map. Later during Roman times, there were a number of Roman villas, supplied by a roman road that passed by the village. One villa was noted in 936 as Cauneta Villa. During the wars against the Cathars, La Caunette played an important part as the advance defence for Minerve, guarding the river Cesse, which was use by many as a means to access the village. La Caunette, then known as 'Lacaune sous Minerve', was fortified, and this can be seen today as 'La Carambelle with it 'porch' or entry gate dating from the 13th century. With the old chateau - Château des Pardailhan to its side (before the French revolution - the chateau included 45 hectares of land (30 ha of fields, 9 ha of vines, 4 ha of olive trees, 3 ha of woodland). The village also had a number of passages into the rocky hillside. The church 'L'Eglise Notre-Dame de L'Assomption' was originally a much smaller visigothic church, and in its present state (much renovated over the years) was built during the 11th century at the same time as Saint-Etienne at Minerve. After the establishment of the Bishopric of Saint Pons, the church in La Caunette, came under its influence. La Caunette, like much of France suffered under the 100 year war, and the wars of religion. The chateau was attacked by the protestants in 1587, and 1590.

La Cave des Vignerons - Siran

La Cave des Vignerons - Siran

La Cave des Vignerons in Siran has experienced a kind of renaissance with the installation of a wine bar in the property formerly dedicated to wine and winemaking. Long ago left to its fate, la Cave came back to life under the guidance of Sabine and Patrick, who wanted to turn it into a meeting place and a cozy place with wine and varied cuisine, inspired by the inspiration of the chef and the seasons... Wine bar, restaurant and concert hall, this former cooperative winery takes in part of its soul while remaining in the spirit of wine and the vine. Unpretentious and very comfortable. Thoroughly recommend...
