de la Mijane

Domaine de la Mijane - Villemoustaussou

A.O.P. Cabardès  Château la Mijane is a wine estate situated in Languedoc-Roussillon. The château was built in the 18th century bordering the Canal du Midi in front of the famous Cité de Carcassonne. The land of the Mijane estate extends over a hundred hectares. From Villemoustaussou to Villalier, the vines account for 45% of the exploited land. Our plots, ideally located between the Canal du Midi and the Aude, are nestled on the foothills of the Montagne Noire. The terroir of Château la Mijane is spread over the municipalities of Villemoustaussou, Villedubert and Villalier. One third of the vines are cultivated in PDO Cabardès, in IGP Cité de Carcassonne and IGP Pays d’Oc. Cabardès is one of the smallest terroirs in Languedoc-Roussillon, situated between the Cité de Carcassonne and the Black mountain. The wines issued from this area are known to be elegant and complex thanks to the clay-limestone soil, the good water supply from the nearby six rivers and the Mediterreanean and Oceaning climate influences...

Château de Brau

Château de Brau - Villemoustaussou

A.O.P. Cabardès  We have not been here for a thousand years. We are emigrants from the South of Spain, the North of Africa, the North of Europe. Who cares! We have not been growing wines since the Roman times. We are farmers, maybe peasants, but modern-day peasants and have been for a long time. We don’t have an exceptional terroir. Just good land for vineyards of which we have ploughed every inch and which we have revived according to organic principles over the last twenty years. An estate on which the vineyards have been reorganised as it has been over the ages with its natural logic and limits: the river to the south and the garrigue to the north. No prestigious ruins. But solid buildings, which have witnessed many lives pass and many hard working people. To the suffocating, so called “constant and loyal usages”, we prefer the nourishing tradition, in our quest - often filled with doubt - for well done work. The vine doesn’t need to suffer, to give the best of itself. Like us, it needs healthy food, little stress and attentive care. Not all vintages are exceptional. There are the weather conditions. And the weeds that we will never overcome. And the little beast and larger animals who demand their share...

Montolieu

Montolieu

Montolieu is located at the foot of the Montagne Noir in the department of Aude, 15 km northwest of Carcassonne and is built like an amphitheater against the rock flank of two ravines. It is located high above the imposing river gorges of L'Alzeau and la Dure. The town owes its existence to the foundation of the Benedictine abbey Saint-Jean-de-Mallast in 800. In the 13th century, the town was poetically named Mount a Ouliou (Mount of Olives). In the 18th century, Colbert (later finance minister) built it on behalf of King Louis XV; the Rijkslakenmanufacture, which ensured a lot of prosperity until the beginning of the 20th century. Since 1990, Montolieu has been a book village, of which there are officially three in France. In the village there are 15 book shops as well as a workshop du livre and a bookbinding shop...

La Coopérative - Musée Cérès Franco - Montolieu

8 km from Carcassonne, in Montolieu, a book village, La Coopérative (former village wine cooperative restored as an art center) hosts the impressive collection of brut, naive, unique and expressionist art gathered by Cérès Franco. Since 2015, the Cérès Franco Collection has been housed in an exceptional setting: the former wine cooperative cellar of Montolieu. Resolutely international, the Cérès Franco Collection brings together around 2,000 works from the 20th and 21st centuries, some of which are presented each year on a different theme. Brazilian and European naivety, South American popular art, art brut, self-taught, singular, artists from the CoBra movement or the New Figuration, the provenance of the works reflects an eclectic and independent taste for an art situated on the fringes of the major artistic currents...

Château de Bouilhonnac
vers des Cabanes
dans les Bois

Château de Bouilhonnac vers des Cabanes dans les Bois

A walk or bike ride from Bouilhonnac to Trèbes along the Canal du Midi via Les Cabanes dans les Bois. In Bouilhonnac, visit the old village and its castle. The ruined castle was built at the end of the 15th century. The vaults of the chapel and the coat of arms that can be seen above a north-east-facing door bear witness to this date. This coat of arms is that of Pierre d'Abzac, Archbishop of Narbonne from 1494 to 1502. In Trèbes, without crossing the bridge, you can also continue to see the harbor and quench your thirst in one of the cafes at the harbor. Then go back to the bridge to continue the walk. (4) You can visit the harbor along the canal and go back. (1) In Bouilhonnac (D/A) take on your left Rue du Château d'Eau which will lead you to the Donjon and the ruins of the castle that dominates this amazing old village. Go around the Donjon and go down right at Rue du Donjon and left and then right again past the small church. Turn left into Rue du Parc. (2)Turn right on the signposted road "Chemin Notre-Dame-des-Champs" towards Villedubert. Continue straight until the D101 which you follow 50 meters on the right...
