Sentier Le Massif de la Clape - Narbonne

It's typical landscape consists of a succession of rocky plateaus separated by narrow ravines, where low scrubland dominates. Facing the sea, vast pine forests consist mainly of Aleppo pine trees have taken root. Featuring a remarkable fauna and flora, massive houses knapweed "corymbosa" commonly called "knapweed Clape", which is an endemic plant. Northwest oaks and downy oaks mingle with pine nuts and pine vegetation still testify today that covered 3000 BC. We will be on the Massif de la Clape. It borrows from the slopes and trails. Then the tour continues quietly with a beautiful view if the sun is to the game. It leads us to the Vigie-round fire monitoring. After borrowing a path of vineyards and made a little road, the meal period may be close to the viewpoint which offers a beautiful view of Narbonne and its Cathedral .. A little further away, downhill near pines before finding the paths that will allow us to see the Virgin of Cruques and end up on the shelf in the scrubland of Clape where one could see, on February 27, a wild iris multitude of all colors. Château Mire l'Etang

Château Mire l'Etang

A.O.P. La Clape On the southern slopes of the Clape massif, the vineyards of Château Mire l'Etang enjoy a unique terroir. On very stony clay-limestone soils, the presence of the nearby sea makes it possible to balance a climate strongly impacted by drought. From the highest point of the estate, facing the rising sun, one can embrace at a glance the ponds, the mouth of the Aude, the Mediterranean Sea and its Golf of Lion. To the north-west, the Cevennes dominate the Languedoc plains as far as the Mediterranean shores. To the south, the chain of the Pyrenees and its famous "CANIGOU" which rises like a giant annunciator of the rare rains beneficial to the culture of the vine. Heir to a culture more than two thousand years old, helped by a most favorable climate, the lands of Château Mire l'Etang lend themselves wonderfully to the development of the vine and contribute to the development of a very famous wine...

La Tulipe Noire

La Tulipe Noire - Fleury d'Aude

Jérôme loves the trade, after having worked in very nice restaurants, he settled with his wife in this small village near La Clape, between Béziers and Narbonne. His credo: treating his guests around a healthy and gourmet cuisine prepared with fresh products and offering dishes with unconcealed tastes and flavors. Rest assured, everything that comes out of his kitchen is beautiful and good. The address don't beat about the bush, it gets straight to the point: quality products, precise gestures, mastered cooking, juices perfectly made, subtly presented dishes and the young age of the chef to make you discover his cuisine halfway between terroir and modernity. At lunchtime, a formula is offered but you will fully become aware of Jérôme's talent on the menu. The dining room set in a redesigned former cellar where the old stones and the old tun that is used as wine cellar are still present. A very favorite address, a state of mind. A restaurant that keeps making people talk about it. New for 2020: the chef has his own vegetable garden!

Écluses de Fonsérannes

Écluses de Fonsérannes - Béziers

It is in Béziers that is the major work of the Canal du Midi: Les 9 Écluses de Fonséranes. A water of 312 meters which allows barges and boats to cross a drop of 25 meters. For the time, an extraordinary technical feat performed by Paul Riquet as a tribute to his hometown. Nine Locks Foncerannes is the third largest tourist site after the Languedoc-Roussillon Carcassonne and the Pont du Gard. Eight thousand ships annually on average cross the Nine Locks that come to see 300,000 visitors per year...

Le Massif
de la Clape

Le Massif de la Clape - Narbonne (Plage)

The Massif de la Clape – ‘stone’ in local dialect - was, until recent geological time, an actual island. This insularity, still apparent in the landscape, has given rise to a particularly rich and original variety of plant and animal life. Today, the La Clappe Heights remain one of those unusual, spellbound places where modem man can still feel, with ahnost every step he takes, the imprint of his long-gone ancestors. The Oeil Doux is a natural waterhole surrounded by cliffs with an abrupt eastern face overhanging the surface 130 feet below (40m). The cliff is made of hard fissured limestone whose crevices are full of red clay; it was formed during the middle geological era. The north side, less steep, is made of marly limestone from an older geological age and is particularly rich in fossile deposits, notably Orbolitines (Mesorbitolna texana), Brachypodes, Lamellibranches and sea urchins (dating from the Clansayesian period). The presence of this hole at this site can be explained by the fragility of the wider area which displays many faults; two of them major. The water in the hole is salty : the salinity, as well as the level, varies with the rainfall and the movements of the Mediterranean just a mile (1,500m) away. The whole zone is part of a submerged karstic formation...

Béziers

Béziers

The birthplace of Pierre-Paul Riquet, founder of the Canal du Midi, Béziers combines its age-old architecture with the beauty of the Orb, Hérault's emblematic river. A majestic monument, cherished by architecture-lovers, towers over its waters: the Cathedral of St. Nazarius, built in the 13th century. This Gothic fortress dominating the city is uniquely original. You could be forgiven for thinking you were visiting a castle! To admire a breathtaking view of the whole of Béziers, head to the Bishop's Palace Garden (Jardin de l'Évêché) downhill from the cathedral. There you can enjoy a unique view over the Orb Plain and the city's bridges, which seem to spring from the ground. Take a stroll in the city centre along its cobbled, narrow streets. You will probably come across other treasures hidden between the old buildings, like the statue of Pépézuc, a mythical Béziers figure said to have saved the city from invaders during the Hundred Years War. Another curiosity: Béziers' old Roman arena. Unlike its counterpart in Nîmes, it is inhabited by locals. Above the ruins stand colourful residential buildings, a wonderful blend of past and present. To get away from the urban hustle and bustle, take a trip to Béziers' old cemetery, which has echoes of Père-Lachaise in Paris. You can walk among the sculptures, cypress trees and graves, some of which are seemingly vying to be the most eccentric: unusual typography, elegant statues and other wonders adorn the stone. Lastly, a trip to Béziers would not be complete without a visit to the legendary Allées Paul-Riquet, a pleasant avenue lined with plane trees, shops and lively café terraces...

Restaurant
Chez Pierrot

Restaurant Chez Pierrot - Vinassan

'Chez Pierrot' is near the pretty Gouffre d'Oeil Doux, Narbonne and the beaches at Narbonne Plage, and St Pierre sur Mer. For the summer, with children, with friends or in a group Chez Pierrot is the place to be. It is the place to enjoy outside eating - where in despite of its huge size has excellent service and food is served at great speed and has a sparky staff. The pizzas and the moules are well recommended. A short drive away are the beaches of the Mediterranean and the pretty Gouffre d'Oeil Doux - a seemingly bottomless pool of clear water amidst the mountains of the Clape...
