Port la Nouvelle

Port la Nouvelle

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés...

Château de l'Ille
Château de l'Ille - Peyriac-de-Mer
A.O.P. CorbièresIts exposure facing the sea allows the vineyard of Château de L'Ille to enjoy a microclimate favorable to the good maturation of the grapes that are harvested at full maturity and, for the most part, manually. Located on the site of an old Roman villa, the Château de l'Ille stretches out to the foothills of Peyriac de Mer, a small fishing village in Languedoc-Roussillon south of Narbonne. On a Mediterranean peninsula, wild and protected, overwelmed by garrigues, ponds and vines, the terroir produces wines of great wealth around a site without equal in the Corbières appellation. The Château de l'Ille winery has a modern winery that allows temperature control: the wines benefit from thermovinification for whites and rosés and, for the red wines, from traditional vinification with carbonic maceration for the noble grape varieties. An underground barrel cellar dug into the rock, houses 120 barrels, 35% of new barrels in French oak and American oak...

Peyriac-de-Mer - A delightful road from Bages takes you along the narrow strip of land between the shore and the salt marshes to Peyriac-de-Mer, another fishing village on the bank of the lagoon. Drive slowly, and admire the view. Part of the lagoon has been declared a nature reserve, and this is a good place for spotting flamingos, herons, storks, and other waterfowl. The smaller Etang de Doul, near Peyriac, has the notable feature of being 43% salt ... comparable to the Dead Sea! Swimming, or rather floating, in it is an interesting experience. There is an archaeological museum in Peyriac-de-Mer containing finds from the nearby oppidum...

Le Potager
de Sigean

Le Potager de Sigean - Sigean

A few steps from the Mediterranean, the ancestral domain now holds in his heart a place apart where simple pleasures are cherished as well as elegance. Between auberge and bistrot, cuisine and wine, olive trees and basil, le Potager is a table to share, sincerely. So close to the sea, in the village of Sigean, this beautiful detour by itself, the Domain of the Macquart family for nearly 400 years covers now 40 hectares, including 10 of organic vineyards surrounded by scrubland and pine forests. In the old buildings of his traditional Languedoc farm, Dominique Macquart, winemaker and owner of the place, has created his place apart...

The small village of Bages that dominates the pond on its hill is a pure marvel that deserves that the tourists who come to stay in the region must see. Little known, except by the aware people, this village preserved its charm and the whole flavor of the small townships of the Roussillon, between pond, garrigues and grapevines...

O Vieux Tonneaux

O Vieux Tonneaux - Peyriac-de-Mer

Family Restaurant & Café de Pays in the heart of the Corbières Maritimes, in a small Village irreducible Gauls. It is in the heart of village life, in the small square near the fountain, that David and his team welcomes you in a simple and friendly atmosphere where villagers, local fishermen, Narbonnais and tourists mingle. Barely crossed the threshold, you will let yourself be carried by this atmosphere, almost "Pagnolesque", where the accents sing, where the sweetness of life is perceptible instantly, where sweet scents already titillate your nostrils. On the terrace or in the dining room reminiscent of the old village bistro, you will enjoy a simple cuisine of regional products. Its slate of tapas is very popular: charcuterie, cheeses, jams, fried fish... For light meals, the vegetarian plate is very nice. A big hunger?
