Corbières

A.O.P. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Minervois

A.O.P. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Lagrasse

Lagrasse

Officially designated ‘One Of The Most Beautiful Villages In France’, Lagrasse nestles at the confluence of two valleys in the stunning Corbières wine region of the South of France. The village is linked to the 8th century Benedictine abbey to which it owed its original prosperity by two graceful bridges spanning the river. Between Carcassonne and Narbonne, Lagrasse is set in the Orbieu valley, in the Corbieres massif. The Orbieu river separates the abbey, rising over the left bank, from the village which spreads along the right bank and is listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France. The foundation charter of the Benedictine Abbey of Sainte Marie de l'Orbieu dates from the end of the 8th century, even if another building probably existed on the site before the Carolingian period...

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés...

La Miellerie des Clauses - Montséret

The Honey, it is little as the wine: the more we know about things on him, the more we understand that he is alive, and the more we estimate him... At the honey farm, you can explore the world of bees and honey and the nature and heritage of the Corbières area. The bee-keepers themselves will explain all the stages of manufacture and get you to join in. To end the visit, there is a tasting of the honey farm's products which can be bought on site (honey, gingerbread, mead, pollen, honey caramels, candles)...

Le Musée du Château de Ventenac

Le Musée du Château de Ventenac - Ventenac-en-Minervois

A place, a history, a passion ... Cross the aisle vault, lined tanks of old Verrees, enter the heart of our cave and visit the museum. Follow the marked route and discover the old tools, cooperage, carriages and wagons old. The Castle of Ventenac was erected in the eighteenth century on the foundations of an ancient castle. The name of Ventenac is its etymology in Roman times: Villa Ventenachus. Castrum Venthenacum was taken in the twelfth century by Simon de Montfort at the time of the Cathars. This is the nineteenth century that Ms. Seguy Saint Siran built the castle in its present form, giving it its prestigious appearance reminiscent of a religious building. At his death, the vineyard, the cellar and the castle became the property of Pauline Meyer. It is in 1938 that deal with the threat of war, the Meyer family left France...
