Restaurant Lou Griffou - Lézignan-Corbières

Griffou, griffoul according to the etymology; meaning "fountain" in Occitan appears in the twelfth century.

The griffoul is also for the Gascon or Provençal a large fountain. Sometimes it takes the meaning inn and the innkeeper becomes griffounier.

We retain the meaning of "public fountain", usually "Great fountain on the town square." Each municipality respecting wanted his Griffou on the central square

Lou Griffou restaurant in Lezignan-Corbieres offers its market cuisine on the slate, every day the chef offers appetizers, dishes, various salads.

Fresh vegetables from local market, fresh meat and fish. What daily renew the pleasure of true or surprising passages of gourmets.
  Specialities

The restaurant Lou Griffou wanted to compose this winemenu, to share the pleasure or rather the pleasures of discovering the vineyards, passionate winemakers through quality wines. This selection is a reflection of the diversity and richness of the soil around Lezignan and authenticity of the men who worked.

One of the pleasures offered by Southern wines is the fruit. The winemakers are watching the moods of each characteristic vine not forgetting any plot size at harvest. With this desire to respect the terroir, the best choice is the hand picking. This is known as a technique but also a philosophy of the vine and work.

Then come the harvest cut just where the grapes are vinified to mature in the most simple way, in the cellars dug from the collective memory. Here is the story of expertise and local produce. It was after the fermentation juices are bottled.

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Minervois

A.O.C. Minervois

The Minervois is one of the most ancient vineyards of the Mediterranean region. Indeed, its land was chosen by the Romans as providing ideal conditions for the first vines they planted in Languedoc Roussillon. Its name comes from the ancient city of Minerve, a stronghold built by the Romans and dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Since that time, many amphora shards and vestiges of cellars have been discovered, testimony to the importance of this vineyard. The region, austere in winter and redolent with sunshine in summer, has survived over the centuries its invasions by barbarians, Arabs and Christians. The essence of Minervois la Livinière, as in so many Midi appellations, is the blend; a marriage of different grape varieties that adds subtle nuance of flavour to the whole. Natural alcohol level must reach a minimum of 12% without enrichment (so no chaptalisation) and maximum yield is a modest 45 hl/ha. Ageing may be in barrel or vat, and unlike basic Minervois, the wine must be bottled at source, so cannot be sent off to a négociant elsewhere in France...

Abbaye
Sainte-Marie
de Lagrasse

Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Lagrasse

Lagrasse is known for its important Abbey, the Abbaye Sainte Marie de Lagrasse, which is accessed by an ancient and very attractive bridge. The keep or “donjon” is still in good condition, giving an interesting idea of the history of the place. The Church of St Michel is a good example of Gothic architecture in the region, and is worth a visit. Lagrasse also retains the ramparts from the old fortifications, all of which helps to preserve a sense of the original village...

Rivière de St Laurent de la Cabrerisse

Amidst a magnificent landscape of vineyards, pine forests, olive trees and garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland), our village stretches along the river Nielle. Ideally located between Carcassonne and its famous fortified cité and Narbonne with both a remarkable cathedral and relaxing beaches to offer, our village deserves its double “label” of “Gate of the Hautes Corbieres” as well as “ Heart of the Corbieres-Minervois country”. You are only a few minutes away from Lagrasse, which abbey and middle-age cobbled streets have earned it a place on the list of France’s most beautiful villages. And there is plenty more to see : the abbeys of Fontfroide and Caunes Minervois are well worth a visit, not to forget the Cathar history of the region with the castles of Termes, Villerouge Termenes, Aquilair, Minerves and many more “vertigo citadels” all within a short drive of the village. The Canal du Midi and the Cité of Carcassonne are both inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List. They offer beautiful opportunities for a half-day or daytrip in the sun....

Narbonne

Narbonne

Narbonne, France is a charming small city in the Languedoc, featuring wonderful historic attractions as well as a relaxing beach along the Mediterranean. The heart of Narbonne, once a key port for the Roman Empire, is the dramatic Place de l'Hotel de Ville. Also be sure to stroll through the village’s old town, where you can’t miss the main attraction: Cathedrale Saint-Just. The most dominant building in this neighborhood, the 13th century church connects to the Palais des Archevêques, which has an ornately carved 130-meter keep. The Horreum, the only significant ancient Roman relic in the city, is an intricate underground series of hallways and tunnels which is believed to have been used for grain storage. Open year-round, it closes Mondays from October through May. Also of interest is the Musee de Telephone, with exhibits on the history of communications, including telegraphs and, of course, the telephone. Be sure to visit Narbonne Plage (beach), which you can reach from the train station and several points in central Narbonne through the 'TUN' bus line. The beach area features boutiques and outdoor cafés.
