Randonnée Les Quatre Châteaux de Lastours

This little walk of an hour is suitable for the whole family. The path leads along the four castles and the Belvedere with its beautiful views. Walk is doable and marked and starts in Lastours.

In the heart of the Montagne Noire, 15 km from Carcassonne formed four medieval castles the castle of Cabaret. The site is strategically located on the road from Narbonne to Spain. The castles have been included since 1905 in the list of Historical Monuments. The oldest known remains date back to the Bronze Age, around 1500 BC.
Randonnée Les Quatre Châteaux de Lastours
In a cave has been found the grave of a girl nicknamed "Princess with the necklace". Her body was covered with objects including amber beads and jewelery from the Mycenaean and Egyptian art. Since the Middle Ages, Lastours is an exceptional property which is built at 300 meters altitude, on top of a rocky promontory. For the Crusades against the Cathars, there were three castles on the site of Lastours (Cabaret, Surdespine and Querthinheux), but under a different form than what they look like now.

Indeed, at the beginning of the thirteenth century, the lord of this place, Pierre Roger de Cabaret, seems to be very connected to Catharism and he suffers from the attacks of the Crusaders from 1209. Between 1223 and 1229, the fight against the Cathars was intense and the three castles were besieged. After the Crusades, the French King won it back and he let tear down the village and castles. He let them rebuild on the ridge and adds a fourth tower: Tour Régine. The Revolution have definitively left the castles of Lastours.

Lastours with its four castles on 15 minutes from Carcassonne invites you to discover its extraordinary heritage that is part of the main attractions of the Cathar country. These four castles located proud and together on a rock overlooking the village, whose houses are scattered across the hills and meander along the shady banks of the Orbiel.

At the foot of the four castles lies the medieval village of Cabaret, which is like a cocoon in this magnificent place and has undergone restoration work led by archaeologist Marie-Elise Gardel. Making this a special place arose from oblivion, where the crusaders fighting the Albigensian was beaten down.

The Belvedere offers a panoramic view of the entire complex, the Montagne Noire and the old mines of Barrencs. Who loves history and those interested in geology, flora and fauna of the Mediterranean can indulge themselves here. You will here back in time to experience a special moment...

Cabardès

A.O.P. Cabardès

The Cabardès region is situated to the west of Languedoc and to the south of the central massif, a geologist's dream, balanced between east and west, the sun and the coolness, the heathland and the mountain. It is here that the winds cross. They bring the intense mediterranean heat necessary for southern "cépages" (grape types) such as syrah and grenache, and the cool atlantic humidity for the ocean "cépages": merlot, cabernet-sauvignon, cabernet-franc, cot and fer-servadou, to prosper. The vineyards and wines of Cabardès have been recognized as AOC since february 1999. The quality of the grapes, the wine-making, the blending of the "cépages" and the keeping of the wines has allowed us to obtain the best balance between fruit and structure, fullness and complexity, intensity and elegance. Cabardès assembles 30 châteaux and domaines over 500 productive hectares spread amongst 18 villages. 20000 hectolitres are produced each year,of which 60% are exported....

La Rivière de la Dure

Randonnée La Rivière de la Dure - Caudebronde

Caudebronde is situated in southern France in the Aude department of Languedoc. In 2008 Aude was voted in the French press as the most desirable department in which to live. The village is in a gorge on the banks of the River Dure beneath the main N118 Route de Mazamet and the departmental D62 road runs through the village but is hardly ever used. It is almost equidistant between Carcassonne and Mazamet, each being about 23km distant, or a 25-minute drive away. The village lies at around 550m elevation on the southern slopes of the Montagne Noire, a much ignored area to the north of Carcassonne and the precursor to the Massif Central. The village has been described as one of the prettiest in the region. The surrounding area is a hillwalker's paradise and a very popular region for cyclists. The territory of Caudebronde had ever many slate quarries - the Lauzières. Slate is used on a large scale for roofing, in that it is strong and has thermal properties (protection against summer heat and the cold of the mountains), and the use of slate is very practical. Still a few "Lauzeurs" practice this craft which is often taught from father to son ... (The Lauzeron is an employee at the quarry. To edit masses large plates, delicate parts slate of several centimeters thick. Unfortunately, a technique which is deteriorating with time! Caudebronde, discrete...by its eccentric position of the road network, and yet so close. It remains a little secret village that everyone will make fun of well maintained alleys, beautiful landscaped gardens, a dominant bell tower and in first place the river la Dure. Here everything is in peaceful rest...

Restaurant
Le Puits du Trésor

Restaurant Le Puits du Trésor - Lastours

Restaurant Le Puits du Trésor is created by a young and promising Chef, Jean Marc Boyer. He took this rather risky bet in 2002: open a gourmet restaurant in a somewhat isolated place. And he turned it into a success! When you taste the cuisine here now, see the place that is modern and traditional all in one go you clearly see it. The cuisine is refined, delicated, generous, a cuisine that has gourmets from around here and elsewhere coming in great numbers. This is a promising address that has more than one trick in store for you! A well of flavours and scents that we encourage you to discover close to Lastours. With a modern and elegant décor, le Puits du Trésor offers a great moment of gourmet communion. The compositions are often renewed to surprise you and charm you several times....
