Built in 1984, the dam consists of a dam 27 meters high and 117 meters wide, with a capacity of 9 million m3 serves many towns with drinking water. This 90-hectare lake is an ideal place to practice windsurfing and fishing.

La ride, easy and very well explained, the overhangs on gratings. A 6 km loop (yellow markings) offers a complete tour of the lake. Easy and uneven, it can lie down by a variant which takes you into the undergrowth of the forest of the Loubatière.

Laprade Lower Lake fed by the river "La Dure" was inaugurated in 1985 by the president François Mitterand. It stores about 9 million cubic meters of water. It is used for viewing supply of drinking water, irrigation of agricultural plains between Castelnaudary and Carcassonne and generate electricity through micro-power downstream of the dam. It also helps regulate the flow of rivers that depend on it, especially in the summer period. In summer the shady banks of Lake Laprade are frequented by many anglers taqui- ing the stud, the perch and sometimes brown trout, first inhabitants of the place. In recent years the white fish is multi tiplié, the lake has become full of fish. The banks of the lake are also popular for randon- ers.   Cuxac-Cabardès
Quiet mountain village, located in the Cathar Country, Cuxac-Cabardès was founded around the 9th century with the church Sainte-Cécile on the banks of the La Expensive, now listed as a historic monument and still has a single tower. In the Middle Ages, Cuxac-Cabardès was an important stronghold and the village has endured many battles during the wars of the Cathars because of its central location between Carcassonne, Albi, Lastours and Saissac. Located 509 meters above sea level in the valley of the river La Dure, it is surrounded by unspoilt nature at the foot of the Montagne Noire. You will find small streets with beautiful stone houses and shady places...
Randonnée Le Lac de Laprade - Les Martys
Les Martys
Domaine des Forges is located in the Montagne Noire, 750 meters above sea level, near the village of Les Martys (Aude). It is crossed by a river, Expensive. Since 1972, this place is the subject of archaeological excavations by the Archaeological Laboratory of the University of Toulouse - Le Mirail. It does contain some ferriers or crassiers (heaps or "tailings" and other metallurgical waste) steel activities of the Romans between 60-50 BC. One of these slag heaps - Grand Ferrier - was remarkable for its dimensions (200 m in diameter and 10 m high). From the interwar period, iron here was exploited to the needs of the industry, which continued intermittently until the end of 1980. Since 1972, the excavated remnants gave archaeologists information on several points: duration of the activity, the type of metal products (iron, not gold, as is commonly believed), construction (shop, thermal) from the first to the third century...

Cabardès

A.O.C. Cabardès

The Cabardès region is situated to the west of Languedoc and to the south of the central massif, a geologist's dream, balanced between east and west, the sun and the coolness, the heathland and the mountain. It is here that the winds cross. They bring the intense mediterranean heat necessary for southern "cépages" (grape types) such as syrah and grenache, and the cool atlantic humidity for the ocean "cépages": merlot, cabernet-sauvignon, cabernet-franc, cot and fer-servadou, to prosper. The vineyards and wines of Cabardès have been recognized as AOC since february 1999. The quality of the grapes, the wine-making, the blending of the "cépages" and the keeping of the wines has allowed us to obtain the best balance between fruit and structure, fullness and complexity, intensity and elegance. Cabardès assembles 30 châteaux and domaines over 500 productive hectares spread amongst 18 villages. 20000 hectolitres are produced each year,of which 60% are exported....

Randonnée La Rivière de la Dure - Caudebronde

Caudebronde is situated in southern France in the Aude department of Languedoc. In 2008 Aude was voted in the French press as the most desirable department in which to live. The village is in a gorge on the banks of the River Dure beneath the main N118 Route de Mazamet and the departmental D62 road runs through the village but is hardly ever used. It is almost equidistant between Carcassonne and Mazamet, each being about 23km distant, or a 25-minute drive away. The village lies at around 550m elevation on the southern slopes of the Montagne Noire, a much ignored area to the north of Carcassonne and the precursor to the Massif Central. The village has been described as one of the prettiest in the region. The surrounding area is a hillwalker's paradise and a very popular region for cyclists. The territory of Caudebronde had ever many slate quarries - the Lauzières. Slate is used on a large scale for roofing, in that it is strong and has thermal properties (protection against summer heat and the cold of the mountains), and the use of slate is very practical. Still a few "Lauzeurs" practice this craft which is often taught from father to son ... (The Lauzeron is an employee at the quarry. To edit masses large plates, delicate parts slate of several centimeters thick. Unfortunately, a technique which is deteriorating with time! Caudebronde, discrete...by its eccentric position of the road network, and yet so close. It remains a little secret village that everyone will make fun of well maintained alleys, beautiful landscaped gardens, a dominant bell tower and in first place the river la Dure. Here everything is in peaceful rest...

Les

Les Quatre Châteaux de Lastours

Built on the top of bedrock at 300m above sea level, the four towers of the site of Lastours (Cabaret, Tour Régine, and Surdespine Quertinheux) proudly dominate the course of Orbiel (the river of olive trees) and the torrent Grésilhou in a wild landscape bristling with cypress. Lock Cabardès since the early Middle Ages, they controlled one of the main pathways in the Cabardès and the Black Mountain and took all their importance at the time of the crusade against the Albigensians. Archaeological excavations carried out since 1980 under the direction of Marie-Elise Gardel, have helped to uncover the medieval village of Cabaret, the Mecca of Catharism and the resistance against the Crusader armies. This ancient fortified settlement called " Castrum ", consisted of a hundred houses and many forges. These places were abandoned abruptly without the inhabitants were able to take any object...
