Musée Lapidaire - Narbonne

The collections of the Lapidary Museum are housed in the former church of Notre Dame de Lamourguier, the remains of a 13th-century Benedictine monastery and a fine example of Southern Gothic art.

Some 1,300 blocks of stone form one of the largest collections in Europe.

Most of them originate from Roman grave monuments which had been re-used as decoration for the town's ramparts (dismantled in the 19th century).

A half-hour sound and light show projected onto the walls of the church retraces the history of Narbonne from antiquity to the Renaissance.

You can buy a Pass Ticket, which is valid for 15 days and gives you entry to all the monuments and museums.
  Specialities

The Musée Lapidaire coming from the dismantlingof the ramparts of Narbonne ordered by Napoléon III, gathers in a disused church of Southern Gothic, a collection of about 1300 Gallo-Roman lapidary elements coming from ancient monuments of the Town. Studies undertaken in 1980 by the researchers of the Centre Camille Jullian (CNRS Aix en Provence) have successfully reconstructed parts of these ancient monuments. Today, the Musée lapidaire of Narbonne invites you to an extraordinary journey to the heart of heritage through an audiovisual show. From the Roman period to the Renaissance, travel through Narbonne and the rest of the world, carried along a show of lights where images and music immerse you in History. The scenography was entrusted to Gianfranco Iannuzzi (www.gianfranco-iannuzzi.com ), multimedia artist and Art Director of the works of sound and light of the quarries of Baux de Provence « Cathédrale d’Images » ; he also created interactive shows for the Futuroscope of Poitiers and for several Italian towns such as Venice. Massimiliano Siccardi, multimedia artist and videographer, has worked on the image and the soundtrack. He has developed a research and production activity integrating new technologies in areas such as image, sound and video...

Le massif de la Clape

La Clape

La Clape

The La Clape AOC is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...
