Collection François Desnoyer - Saint-Cyprien village

The Collection François Desnoyer is giving you the opportunity to discover the second part to 'Levée de Voiles' based on the decorative arts and Western painting at the turn of the 20th Century.

The exhibition which focuses itself on 'l'Ecole Nancy' presents works by Gallé, and Lalique, whose original style breaks with the artistic writings of the past.

  Specialties

The François Desnoyer museum was created in 1972 to house an important donation of pieces from the artist’s personal collection.

In 1994, a second museum, this time one of contemporary art, grew up just a short distance from the first. In 2003, both museums were restructured and given the name “Collections de Saint Cyprien” Since then, they have concentrated on daring, sometimes shocking exhibitions, mostly following a theme of “collections”. With the addition of 700 m2 of extra space, numerous lenders agreed to contribute to the collections, bringing them international status.

New, up-and-coming artists regularly exhibit here also. Thanks to the legacy from François Desnoyer in 1972, the permanent collection is added to regularly.

As well as the many works of Desnoyer, one will also find Albert Marquet, Utrillo, Suzanne Valadon, Salvador Dali, and many other major artists...

Muscats du Languedoc

A.O.C. Muscats du Languedoc

Muscat de Rivesaltes is an appellation for the historic vins doux naturels from a relatively large area of Roussillon, in southern France, covering a total of 99 communes, and the majority of the Pyrenees-Orientales administrative departement. It is the largest single sweet wine appellation in France. Muscat de Rivesaltes wines are made predominantly from Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains and Muscat d'Alexandrie in varying ratios, according to the style desired by the individual producer. Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains is used to bring aromas of exotic and citrus fruits while Muscat d'Alexandrie brings a deeper bouquet of white flowers and ripe stone fruit. Collectively the wines show aromas of peach, lemon, mango and occasionally fresher, herbaceous notes like mint. These aromas all change with ageing, (which take place mostly in the bottle to preserve the fresher aromas) and the wines take on aromas of honey and baked stone fruits...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Banyuls-Sur-Mer

Banyuls-Sur-Mer

Banyuls sur Mer shelters at the feet of the Albères hills, where terraced vineyards plunge down to meet the sea. This is also the homeland of the sculptor Maillol. A village, a beach and a port hidden away in a fold of the Pyrenees, that's what you will find at the foot of Cap Béar. Banyuls-sur-Mer is the last stop before Spain and is surrounded by quays that run alongside the Allées Maillol, where artists have set up their studios. Explore the picturesque little stepped side streets and, when evening comes, with the music of the Sardana as a background, you can enjoy a Banyuls, the wonderful aperitif that takes its name from the wine produced here. Old farmhouses, Catalan fishing-boats, vines that tumble down towards the sea, silver-leaved olive trees: this is a place where traditions have been preserved intact, a place where time stands still… So, hoist the flag ad drop the anchor in Banyuls, where the motto is “In mare via tua”! (Your road lies upon the sea). Things to see & do: Cap Rédéris, with its amazing views of sea and mountains - the museum and tomb of Aristide Maillol in the sculptor’s former workshop - aquarium and sea observatory - wine cellars of the famous sweet wine of Banyuls....

Musée d’Art Moderne

Musée d’Art Moderne - Collioure

Collioure has always been a source of inspiration for artists. Writers, poets, singers and painters fell under Collioure’s charm. That is also why Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy Chagall, Marquet, and many others set up their easels here and immortalized the small Catalan harbor in their works. With approximately thirty galleries and many artists from the entire world, Collioure still is the ”City of Painters”...

Perpignan

Perpignan

Half Catalan, half French, Perpignan is Languedoc at its most exotic. The last major town in Languedoc before the Spanish border, it’s easy to see why the flavour of Perpignan is essentially Catalan. There’s a real mix of cultures in this corner of the region: Catalan, Romany and North African all co-exist in this sunny city of palm-lined squares. For the visitor, it’s useful to know that this is not only one of the best places in the region to sample local food and wine but also a city with a relatively busy airport that has several handy air connections overseas. However, it does lack buzz – Barcelona is too close and too big a rival for little Perpignan to hit the big time. It’s also worth noting that over recent years Perpignan has become a stronghold for Jean-Marie Le Pen’s rightwing Front National Party who claim the city’s original white inhabitants have been overrun by foreigners A former capital of the Kings of Majorca and the Counts of Roussillon, Perpignan changed hands repeatedly during the medieval period until finally becoming French territory with the Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659. Always too far from the coast to become a port, the town developed into a cloth-making centre by the early middle ages. In more recent times, Perpignan became home to countless “pieds noirs” or French citizens who fled the uprisings of the 50s and 60s in North Africa. The town is now also home to sizeable communities of people from Morocco and Algeria who moved to France to escape repression in their home countries...
