"Excellent quality meal in pleasant surroundings. The two items on the menu, tartine de poissons and escalop de veau were both delicious and the meal, which included dessert, coffee, and wine, was very reasonably priced. The restaurant is easy to find and clean with elegantly simple decor and furnishings and very friendly, helpful staff. The countryside around Camplong is beautiful. I can highly recommend this little gem".

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....

Abbaye
Sainte-Marie
de Lagrasse

Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Lagrasse

Lagrasse is known for its important Abbey, the Abbaye Sainte Marie de Lagrasse, which is accessed by an ancient and very attractive bridge. The keep or “donjon” is still in good condition, giving an interesting idea of the history of the place. The Church of St Michel is a good example of Gothic architecture in the region, and is worth a visit. Lagrasse also retains the ramparts from the old fortifications, all of which helps to preserve a sense of the original village...

Campsite Boucocers Bachandres

Campsite Boucocers Bachandres - Lagrasse

This campsite is located on a hill overlooking the village with stunning views over the medieval town of Lagrasse, its abbey and the beautiful fertile Orbieu valley. Officially designated ‘One Of The Most Beautiful Villages In France’, Lagrasse nestles at the confluence of two valleys in the stunning Corbières wine region of the South of France. The village is linked to the 8th century Benedictine abbey to which it owed its original prosperity by two graceful bridges spanning the river...

Pont de Ribaute

Pont de Ribaute

Gorges de Ribaute, a gorgeous swimming spot of limpid blue-green water teaming with fish and dragonflies, below reefs of rock pummelled by centuries of water. For those not tempted to bathe, watching the wildlife is equally enjoyable. The river Orbieu tumbles from the geological chaos of the central Corbieres, gradually warming up as it runs over sun-baked rocks, until it winds through the vine-covered hills of Lagrasse and Ribaute....

Gorges
du Congoust

Gorges du Congoust - Montlaur

The meandering course of the stream of Mattes takes a spectacular parade of the mountains between Alaric and Hull: Gorges Congoust (named by the Romans co-angustum: constricted passage). The landscape is vegetation: very dry on the south side of Alaric, much of the wooded slope of the shell covered with thickets of evergreen oak. The course, framed by limestone cliffs and large boulders, is animated waterfalls and potholes, which punctuate and enliven the watercourse....

Château de Termes

Château de Termes - Termes

The site of Termes includes a charming small village, near two spectacular gorges, and of course, the rests of one of the best known fortresses of the history of the Crusade against the Cathars. We are not far away from the castles of Villerouge-Termenès and Arques nor from the village and abbey of Lagrasse as well. The castle of Termes was the administrative center of an important territorial district in XI th -XIII th centuries. The lords of Termes managed a powerful fortified village, under the donjon, and they showed themselves tolerant to the cathar heretics. 800 years ago, during the crusade against the cathars, the siege of Termes in 1210 by the army of Simon de Montfort made Termes famous: it was one of the longest sieges of this 20 years long war (1209-1229). At the end of the XIII° century, the castle was reorganized by the French royal power. From then, Termes was one of the castles wich protected France against spain : The " Five sons of Carcassonne"....
