Château du Vieux Parc has been in the Mialhe and Panis family for six generations, but it wasn’t until relatively recently, in the 1960s, that the domain changed course away from bulk wine to produce quality wine they themselves bottled. Under the helm of Guy Panis, Vieux Parc’s focus on cultivation and bottling, and departure from the production of bulk wine, led to numerous awards and great success. Later, Louis Panis, Guy’s son, returned from a career in teaching to take the lead and continue the efforts his father had put into motion. While Louis tends to the winemaking, his wife, Claudine Panis, handles the administration and runs the tasting room, which is open year-round.

Claudine and Louis’s son Guillaume Panis , the sixth-generation of the Panis Family, began working in the family business during the harvest of 2005, and will be the next to take over. Bringing a youthful energy and enthusiasm and a knowledge gleaned from his father as well as his experience working worldwide, Guillaume hopes to adapt the ideals established by his grandfather Guy and his father into the demands of today’s world. Sustainable agriculture, water management, food safety, HACCP and international trade are the current benchmarks, and allow Château du Vieux Parc to continue to produce great wines for the pleasure of wine lovers.

In Corbières wine is a matter of tradition and passion. One of the few agricultural activities possible in this arid region, the cultivation of grapes for winemaking goes back to the second century BC. The Corbières region benefits from conditions and soils ideal for winemaking: The Mediterranean climate of dry, sunny and warm weather coupled with the northwest wind to cool the area at night promote long growth cycles for the vines. In terms of soils, Corbières includes a number of different types, notably shale, sandstone, limestone, and marl. Between Carcassonne and Narbonne, Château du Vieux Parc was built over centuries in this beautiful landscape rich in flora and fauna. The private estate is located on the Terroir of Lezignan in the small village of Conilhac Corbières and includes 40 hectares of AOP Corbières and 30 hectares of Vin de Pays. The terroir is composed of clay and limestone slopes and stony, south-facing terraces. The climate is Mediterranean –hot and dry with very little rainfall between June and October. Protected by the Alaric Mountain to the west, the rainclouds rarely reach the village. The dominant wind, named Cers or tramontane, sculpts the landscape and is perfect for the ripening of grapes. Red grape varieties include: carignan, syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, cinsault, merlot, cabernet sauvignon , cabernet franc White grape varieties: grenache blanc, roussanne, vermentino, viognier, muscat sec We pride ourselves on practicing sustainable farming, which respects the land in its limited use of pesticides and other chemical treatments. The estate has been certified Vitéalys-Agriculture Raisonnée since 2008. The grape harvest takes place at optimum maturity to take advantage of the maximum fruitiness of the grapes. The harvest is sorted out and destemmed to obtain soft and elegant tannins..

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

La Pinède de Lézignan

La Pinède de Lézignan - Lézignan-Corbières

50,000 trees were planted in the pine forest and City with the help of the National Forestry Office, the Rescue Centre and the participation of the people and children in an awareness and education approach to preservation the quality of our environment. Lézignan-Corbières is a very active town, located along the main road between Narbonne and Carcassonne. The town has plenty of shops and cafés and so makes a good place to stop for a lunchtime visit. The main attraction, though, is the Wednesday market which is very large and packs the town with market stalls, people, odors (of the good sort) and activity. The main church of Lézignan-Corbières, Eglise Saint-Félix, is an imposing structure. Declared an historical monument, it's located in the center of town and has a small park just beside. The Wednesday market is a really big affair in Lézignan-Corbières. The market stretches around the south side of the old town, packing the main Cours de la République and most of the adjacent side-streets. There are very many clothes and food stalls, and all are popular. It was fun to observe which vendors had the best reputation by the bigger crowds packed around the more popular vegetable and food stands...
