Château Mire l'Etang - Fleury d'Aude

On the southern slopes of the Clape massif, the vineyards of Château Mire l'Etang enjoy a unique terroir. On very stony clay-limestone soils, the presence of the nearby sea makes it possible to balance a climate strongly impacted by drought.

From the highest point of the estate, facing the rising sun, one can embrace at a glance the ponds, the mouth of the Aude, the Mediterranean Sea and its Golf of Lion.

To the north-west, the Cevennes dominate the Languedoc plains as far as the Mediterranean shores. To the south, the chain of the Pyrenees and its famous "CANIGOU" which rises like a giant annunciator of the rare rains beneficial to the culture of the vine.

Heir to a culture more than two thousand years old, helped by a most favorable climate, the lands of Château Mire l'Etang lend themselves wonderfully to the development of the vine and contribute to the development of a very famous wine.

  Specialties

It is in this unique terroir that, since 1977, the grape variety has been totally renewed to allow the elaboration of great wines. Thus, each variety has found its place to express itself at best and give high quality berries necessary for a careful vinification.

We thus find on our lands the traditional and qualitative grape varieties in the South of France in general, and the Languedoc in particular: Syrah, Grenache noir and Mourvèdre for the red wines, the same three grape varieties and the cinsault for the bleeding rosés and the Roussanne Grenache blanc and bourboulenc (also known as Malvoisie, emblematic grape variety from La Clape, which in ancient Crete gave wisdom to those who drank it) for the white. All these species are competing in the development of the largest wines of the Aude.

Château Mire l'Etang is the property of the Chamayrac family since 1972, this estate which then counted 36 hectares of vines, now produces the greatest wines of the South (The numerous awards received each year attest to this).

Over the years, the area has grown to 50 hectares, including 42 hectares in AOP. Several important adjustments have been completed and the wine assortment has been expanded.

La Clape

La Clape

The La Clape AOC is located where the Coteaux du Languedoc and Corbières appellations overlap and is well known for its vineyards that lie on a limestone outcropping that extends across the entire region. The region produces red, rose and white wines that are fully representative of the region and the reds show particularly well, often times considered a vin de garde. The majority of the wines of Gruissan are produced on the Clape. This little mountain, situated between Narbonne and Gruissan was an isle at the time of prehistoric man. The Clape, gets its name from the Occitan word « Clapas » meaning a pile of stones, and reaches a height of 214 m. The pine trees cover the slopes of the Clape. The garrigue covers the plateaux and the thyme, the rosemary and the lavender that invite you to promenade are what give the wines their character...

After borrowing a path of vineyards and made a little road, the meal period may be close to the viewpoint which offers a beautiful view of Narbonne and its Cathedral .. A little further away, downhill near pines before finding the paths that will allow us to see the Virgin of Cruques and end up on the shelf in the scrubland of Clape where one could see, on February 27, a wild iris multitude of all colors. This is a very beautiful hike by the in the specified direction because we have a beautiful view through the circuit and it also can not cross private property Happy trails...
