The Chateau de Floure used to belong to Gaston Bonheur, a French poet, writer, journalist and socialite who devoted his life to his two passions: writing and making good wine. He spent a lot of time and energy restoring the Château back to its initial history and grandeur. Back in the Roman empire, the “Via Aquitania” passed through the domain and was a stopping place for many travelers. It became a monastery in the Fifth century and expanded into a “bourgeois” residence in the Sixteenth century, when it belonged to the President of the Toulouse Parliament. Gaston Bonheur was originally from the Aude country. He started to work at Paris-Soir as a journalist and published his first book in 1935. He was one of the founder of Paris-Match post WWII and was doing the back and forth between Paris and Floure where he also started to make his own wine. He also had many guests stay at his house and counted people like French composer and singer Charles Trénet or painter Matisse as his friends...

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. Sentier Les Vestiges de Miramont - Barbaira

Château de Miramont is located on the slopes of the Montagne d'Alaric, a few kilometers from Carcassonne. It is reached by the tourist road between the villages of Monze and Barbaira. The castle dates from the eleventh to the thirteenth century. It is in ruins, but we still see its general organization: a central tower which remains a part of a vaulted room and an outdoor enclosure on which are backed various buildings. Château de Miramont is located in a very advantageous position overlooking the Aude valley. The remains of the Château de Miramont backing the northern flank of the mountain Alaric, 4 km southwest of the town of Barbaira. Standing on the isolated plateau, at over 300 meters above sea level, this site is a perimeter protégé. Du top of the promontory, the view embraces a beautiful landscape formed by the Aude valley, the reliefs of the Minervois up the bar of the Montagne Noire. Today we can say that the remains that still remain, were built on the king's castle bases Visigoth, Alaric II. Built on a strategic point, the building was probably built by the lords of Capendu in the early Middle Ages. Starting Barbaira (Place du Foyer). Go under the railway and take the side stones, route of medieval origin. At Place du Four, take the street Carrayrat and leave the village. Go under the motorway and turn right for about 300 m. Turn left, then right on a slightly cashed path, bordered by low walls. Follow this path until the lime kiln then parking of the nursery.

Gorges
du Congoust

Gorges du Congoust - Montlaur

The meandering course of the stream of Mattes takes a spectacular parade of the mountains between Alaric and Hull: Gorges Congoust (named by the Romans co-angustum: constricted passage). The landscape is vegetation: very dry on the south side of Alaric, much of the wooded slope of the shell covered with thickets of evergreen oak. The course, framed by limestone cliffs and large boulders, is animated waterfalls and potholes, which punctuate and enliven the watercourse....

Carcassonne,
la Cité

Carcassonne, la Cité - Carcassonne

The Walled City of Carcassonne is known first and foremost as a fortified medieval town; but this rocky outcrop has been occupied by man since the 6th century B.C., first as a gaul settlement, then as a Roman town fitted with ramparts as early as the 3rd and 4th centuries A.D. On the western face of this primitive fortification rests the castle, built in the 12th century by the vicomtes Trencavels. In the early 13th century, Carcassonne was taken by Simon de Montfort during the Albigensian Crusade, then annexed to the royal estate. Fortification works lasted throughout the 13th century, with the construction of the outer wall and the modernisation of the inner rampart, making this place an impregnable fortress. The Cité lost its strategic importance after the signing of the Pyrénées Treaty in 1659. In the second half of the 19th century, it underwent a major restoration project supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and was included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List...

Le Sentier Sculpturel de Mayronnes

Le Sentier Sculpturel de Mayronnes

Mayronne(s) is a hamlet in the Corbieres hills, near Lagrasse. It hosts a stunning free sculpture trail 5km (two hours 30 minutes) long. There are permanent sculptures and an annual exhibition April – September. Sculptures are amusing, puzzling and breathtaking. The walk would be stunning even without the sculptures and it is a magical experience. Very few people know it’s there....
