Château de Cabriac - Douzens

Lying against the foot of Mont Alaric, in the Languedoc-Roussillon, Château de Cabriac is in a wonderful setting of hills planted with vineyards and topped with pine trees. Its position facing the Montagne Noire gives a panorama view of contrasts and colors.

The castle of Cabriac is a family domain since 1802, belonging to Jean and Michèle de Cibeins who take care with the cultivation of the vines and the elaboration of its wines. We produce excellent Corbières wines thanks to this particularly favorable terroir as well as Pays d'Oc wines.

Château de Cabriac - Douzens
The estate covers 70 hectares: 25 in Corbières and 45 in Vin de Pays. The Cibeins family was among the pioneers by introducing very early Mediterranean varieties such as Syrah, Mourvèdre A.O.P.

This allows us to create extremely varied and complex assemblies. Part of the estate also produces Pays d'OC wines such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Syrah for red wines. On the white side, the wines benefited from the introduction of Vermentino, Roussanne and Viognier.

The soil of the Cabriac estate is composed of clay and limestone placed on sandstone and sandstone marls of shallow depth, warming rapidly. Its exposure to the north of Alaric protects it from the heat of the Mediterranean and facilitates a slow and progressive maturation of the grapes. In addition, the diversity of exhibitions allows Mediterranean grape varieties such as mourvèdre and syrah to develop their aromatic qualities until their full development. The wines of Château de Cabriac owe their quality to the material and human resources used to transform this fruit of the earth into a wine capable of fully satisfying the spirit and the senses.

Certain batches of red wines are put in barrels, after malolactic fermentation. These wines will go into the blends of the selected cuvées. The stirring on lees is practiced on white wines.

The assemblies are made according to the tastings to obtain the desired profiles:
- Confidences: Exceptional wine
- Le Prieuré Saint Martin: Power, Intensity
- La cuvée Marquise de Puivert: structured aging wine with silky and complex tannins.

The barrel cellar is insulated and air conditioned, temperature and hygrometry are controlled. When the wines are considered perfect, the bottling is done in the very places where they were elaborated, thus deserving the label "mis en bouteilles au château".

The estate dates back to Roman times and some remains of the Knights Templar are still visible. At the time of the Revolution, the Château de Cabriac was sold as "property of the clergy" to the Berlioz family, owner of part of the famous Lagrasse abbey since the same time. The last descendant of the family: the Marquise de Puivert, deceased without an heir, donated it in 1945 to the family of Cibeins related to Berlioz. Jean de Cibeins pays careful attention to the cultivation of the vines and the production of wines. His wife, Michèle is responsible for the sale and export of the products.

It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....
