  Specialities

This guesthouse is situated in the medieval village of Cucugnan, in the Aude region. Surrounded by castles, it boasts panoramic views of the Pyrenees Mountains from its garden and terrace.

Entry to Quéribus also includes the Théâtre Achille Mir (same hours) in the small village of Cucugnan, in the valley to the north of the Château.

Through an imaginative slide-show the theatre retells the story of the Curé de Cucugnan, hero of Alphonse Daudet's book Lettres de Mon Moulin; locals claim he's based on their own nineteenth-century abbot Ruffié.

The village also has a rare statue of a pregnant Virgin Mary in its pretty little church.

Corbières

A.O.C. Corbières

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities. It is picturesque with wine growing areas alternating with garigue and mountainous countryside. It is located mainly in the Aude département and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales département. The River Aude borders the Corbières to the west and north. To the south is the River Agly and to the east the the Mediterranean Sea. The name Corbières comes from "cor" a pre-Celtic word meaning "rock" and "berre" from the River Berre which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the the Mediterranean Sea and is called the Corbières maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermomediterranean vegetation...

Vin de Pays d’Oc,
Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays d’Oc, Vin de Pays de l’Aude

Vin de Pays means 'country wine' to the French, but to outsiders it can mean New World with a French accent. These are the wines which the French authorities unreservedly allow to be labelled with the grape variety from which they were made. It is difficult to over-estimate the importance of this large and growing category of wines for the future of the French wine trade. The French themselves may have tended to see any Vin de Pays as distinctly inferior to any appellation contrôlée wine, whereas many of their customers abroad see the better Vins de Pays as good-value, user-friendly, sometimes high-quality non-conformist emissaries from the world's most revered wine producer....
